Requested move 22 December 2023

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved. I took a second look at this after being questioned on my talk page. Reading what WP:NCROY actually says, none of the Oppose votes are actually based in policy, so the consensus is therefor to move, taking into account the consensus of Wikipedia as a whole as reflected in the policy. – There are no other monarchs with this combination of name and regnal number, so there is no need to disambiguate. Векочел (talk) 02:31, 22 December 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 08:12, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why don't we also put New Zealand in the title of article about Hugh Watt so that less familiar readers know which country Hugh Watt was prime minister of? Something like Hugh Watt, Prime Minister of New Zealand? Or Hugh Watt of New Zealand? Surtsicna (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Go on, give it a try. Surtsicna (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
WP:NCROY says not to use country names where not necessary for disambiguation, blindlynx. Surtsicna (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I didn't realize the policy changed. Either way it i don't see how moving away from having the country in the title is a benefit—blindlynx 16:17, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Support - I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't like this move just as much as most of the opposers. But unlike the other opposers, I understand that my personal opinion is irrelevant and that WP:SOVEREIGN and other policies and guidelines most, if not all, of which support this. estar8806 (talk) 17:26, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Loads of Ferdinands, but only one Ferdinand VI. "Household name" argument does not hold water. Hugh Watt is not a household name either yet we do not call him Hugh Watt of New Zealand. Surtsicna (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
What does "potentially ambiguous" mean, SnowFire? Who is the other Ferdinand VI? Surtsicna (talk) 16:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
