What is your source for that? I know it's correct, because I am a distant relative of hers, but am curious to know what the article's source was. mjr92115@yahoo.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.207.65.218 (talk) 08:05, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- The IP raises a good point. I've searched secondary sources and can find no substantiation for the claimed birth name ("Finkelstein") that was inserted in the article along with other similiar text. None of the obituaries give a different birth name. While it may have been different than "Gray," editors simply cannot "unearth" such stuff via our own original research. Frankly my original research finds no substantiation for "Finkelstein." Coretheapple (talk) 14:55, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ancestry records show Sylvia D. Finkelstein (mother's maiden name Gray) born in Los Angeles June 7, 1923 -- identical to Dolores, except she made herself a year younger. Ancestry has Baptismal records for her brother Richard born 1920, parents Harry Finkelstein & Marguerite Gray. My mother was Dolores' contemporary and grew up knowing that she was related to us on the Finkelstein side of our family. I also know Richard's daughter personally & she had not known, growing up, that her family was Jewish. I also knew Dolores' first cousin Sylvia Roth; she and Dolores were both named for the same person. 2600:8801:D00A:4600:FC6B:4750:A3CF:6101 (talk) 19:13, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Birth name and year
editI've done some further research into the birth name of the article subject. I find that indeed there is a reference to her as being born "Finkelstein." However, this same California Birth Index listing shows her birth date as June 7. 1923, not 1924. The Social Security application does not show Finkelstein and shows a former name of Vernon and a birth year of 1923. The SSDI is for Dolores Gray and shows a birth year of 1924. Ditto her tombstone on Findagrave. How can we go with Finkelstein and not also change the birth year? I don't think we can. On balance I am going to just leave it without the original research, birthyear 1924 and no different birth name. I just don't see how we can overrule the reliable secondary sources, none of which reflect either a 1923 birth year or Finkelstein as the birth name. Coretheapple (talk) 20:17, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
