"Dennis Wayne Archer (born 1 January 1942 in Detroit, Michigan) is a former president of the American Bar Association, former Mayor of Detroit, and was the first Black American to hold this office."

I'm pretty sure Coleman Young was a black American, or at least a dark-skinned American citizen with African features. Perhaps Mr. Young was the first black American to preside over the ABA? I'll remove the questionable clause for now. --VAcharon 09:33, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

In response to this statement, I did some research, and per articles on the internet in relation to Dennis Archer being elected as the first African American to be president of the ABA, the following link http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4185/is_20020815/ai_n10177046 states that this is the case. I believe that the statement needs to be added back in. Though, I agree that the wording of the current statement in question needs to be reworded. I propose that the sentenance in question read: Dennis Wayne Archer (born 1 January 194 in Detroit, Michigan) is a former president of the American Bar Association, the first African American elected to hold this offic and former Mayor of Detroit." This would show that Mr. Dennis Archer was in fact the first African American elected to be president of the ABA.--Angelscatie 11:35, 30 January 2008

Removed from article edit

Many citizens of Detroit called Archer a "white black man," citing that his desire to change the city for the good of the people was "not listening to his people" and he was "listening to the suburb whites" too much.
