"DeFi" needed

Section here, or new article, needed on "DeFi" (Decentralized Finance), now frequently cropping up in crypto news. I lack the knowledge to do it. Errantius (talk) 22:22, 18 January 2020 (UTC).

sourcing problems

Hi, @Geysirhead:, @Enhancement321:, @Manhuichi:, @Midhav Ravindran: and @David Gerard: noting that much of this on this page is not acceptable. We are only using high quality sources on crypto articles, that means wsj, nyt, bloomberg, fortune, wired, etc. We dont use any cryptozines, softpedia, blogs, etc. Much of this content is not notable and thus WP:UNDUE. Oxford English?

Since this article was overwhelmingly written with DMY dates not American MDY dates (and I normalized the few exceptions I found, mostly ISO dates), but was using -ize spellings, I've tagged this as {{Use DMY dates}} and {{Use Oxford English}}, since the latter also uses -ize, and I don't see anything in the material that is an Americanism that would be incompatible with Oxford spelling. Another option would be to declare it American English and change the date format to MDY. But outside of US military topics, it doesn't make much sense to have an American-English article that's in DMY.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  23:36, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Shortened list of DAOs

I cut down on the List of DAOs, since it seemed to be a possible hotbed for promotion of non-notable orgs (and was a current hotbed of external links). I also added a comment to not add to the list unless the organization already has a Wikipedia article or there is independent, reliable sourcing of it's status as a DAO (not sure if new editors will know that "independent, reliable" means "high quality sourcing", though).

ENS links don't go to anything that describes ENS

Wasn't sure how to do this correctly but the ENS link in the list of DAOs links to the disambiguation page for ENS but that page doesn't actually list the Ethereum Name System anywhere. Distributed autonomous organizations?

Should this page also reference the term "Distributed autonomous organizations"? I have seen that term used and wondering if it's a synonym that's in use. Not an expert, so I am asking here. MRubenzahl (talk) 13:14, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Though it uses a different "d" word, it is referring to the same thing. There is a lot of variation within how DAOs are implemented, but that change in wording does not yet describe any different types of DAO. "Decentralized" is far more common than "distributed", so I am unsure if it is warranted to mention it, but it's not a harm either way. Mewnst (talk) 22:21, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

Non-cryptocurrency applications of the term

This article is exclusively focused on the loose usage as of the label "decentralized autonomous organization/DAO" as a buzzword for distributed computing protocols, giving minimal attention to more conservative (and accurate) definitions of the term as it relates to organizational management theory; that is to say, this article should primarily focus on actual decentralized autonomous organizations and how they are structured, rather than "DAO" as a brand name for venture capitalist firms and the projects in their portfolios. Although these DAO-branded projects are noteworthy in relation to the broader cryptocurrency scheme due to the scale of the ETH hacks noted in the article, this should be documented separately from the organizational model. Barnbridge DAO Shutdown

I feel like this may be somewhat important, as the SEC shot down Barnbridge DAO out of the sky after deeming their SMART Yield Bonds & Smart Yield Pools as unregistered securities, with the two founders being fined a combined $1.625M, and the entire project being forced to close-up-shop.
