Proposed Thane image edit

I wanted to discuss a image change here before I start some kind of edit war. The current image is the same as this one, but the proposed image is higher resolution, not cropped as close to the cyclone, has been altered to allow more details in the cloud structure, and is in .jpeg format. Let me know if the change would better suit the article. Supportstorm (talk) 21:19, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I changed it, good call. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:21, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree since you can see more of the pinhole eye in that image than the old one.Jason Rees (talk) 21:29, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

1-min sustained winds edit

There had been some discrepancies on whether Thane is Category 1 or Category 2. According to NRL, its 1-min sustained winds are 150 km/h, thus making it a category 1. However according to JTWC its 1-min winds are 165 km/h, making it a category 2. So which dataset should we trust? JTWC or NRL? Damien4794 (talk) 03:35, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

There should not be any discrepancies on the windspeeds since The NRL doesnt estimate windspeeds - they just host a copy of the JTWC's running best track. It is the JTWC that makes the warnings and the running best track before at the end of the season look over the data and revise their estimates in the cold light of day. As a result it is the 90 kts/165 km/h that we have to use for 1-minute sustained windspeeds.Jason Rees (talk) 14:32, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
