Date format

With this edit, HurricaneEdgar changed the article to mdy format. Not sure why because the cyclone is affecting countries that are all using dmy dates. Accordingly, I shall revert to dmy dates. Schwede66 22:44, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

I noticed earlier that @HurricaneEdgar: added a template that said that this article was written in American English which is fair enough, however, I have since changed this to NZ English since New Zealand was the primary country impacted. I will note though that at this stage of the articles development it doesn't matter too much since as I understand it there arent too many differences between British English (What I naturally tend to write in), New Zealand English and American English.Jason Rees (talk) 17:18, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

That's totally fair enough, thank you for all your work on both articles! @ShakyIsles: I definitely agree, as well as re-ordering that section to be chronological (ie. move the impact on the Pacific Islands above NZ). As one of the main editors of tropical cyclones in the region, I wonder if Gabrielle really needs a separate article. Obviously, I am not doubting that it's notable enough, but with Hale and 06F already impacting New Zealand you wonder if one article wouldn't be better.Jason Rees (talk) 22:52, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

As someone in NZ, the coverage and impact of this one is an order or magnitude higher than the others- there wasn't a huge amount of attention paid to those two in comparison to Gabrielle, with people drawing frequent comparisons to Bola from the 80s. I feel like Gabrielle definitely merits its own article and will be getting referenced in years to come fairly consistently in a way that Hale and 06F won't be. All evidence is pointing to Gabrielle being the most devistating weather event to ever hit New Zealand in terms of value of damage done. Definitely deserves it's own article. ShakyIsles (talk) 23:50, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

As I said in my comments it isnt the fact that it isnt notable for an article or doesnt deserve one, as after all it seems certain that Gabrielle will be added to the List of retired Australian cyclone names later in the year. I just wonder though if its not better to combine the articles, since Hale and 06F would have at least in part set the stage for Gabrielle and would thus be a part of the most devestating weather event if you catch my drift. "Tropical Cyclone Giselle"(second line) redirects to "TEV Wahine"

Would it make more sense for it to redirect to 1960s South Pacific cyclone seasons or for a page to be made for Tropical Cyclone Giselle using the info from the the TEV Wahine article? It includes the track map and everything IFixThings (talk) 23:39, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

I'm honestly not sure - in theory yes, that'd make a lot more sense. But looking at the two articles, the article about the cyclone seasons has one line with no real detail, while the TEV Wahine article goes into a fair bit of detail about the cyclone which sank it, and most of the cyclone's notability probably comes from its association with the Wahine. That's true. I'd say the most productive solution is to make a separate article for Giselle but that's only under the assumption that there's enough substance to separate it from the TEV Wahine sinking. IFixThings (talk) 02:23, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

For sure, I think a separate article could be a good idea. On looking into it more, it seems like there was quite a lot of damage and unique meteorological context which made it fairly notable, so I'm sure there would be enough for an article to cover - though I'd need to look into it more to be certain.
