Talk:Currency substitution

The mechanics edit

I was looking for the article to explain how the substitution of an external currency for a country's internal currency happens. Superficially, using dollarization as an example, it might sound like, "Employers, start paying your employees in dollars" and "Citizens: Go to a bank and exchange all your currency for dollars". But how do either employers or the country have all these dollars to hand out in the first place? It isn't obvious, and the article should explain it. I think its alluded to in the section of the article that covers how the foreign currency comes to be used de facto, which necessary involves accepting the foreign currency as payment for exports, but it isn't clear that that results in enough of the currency being present inside the country to allow for such an exchange to occur universally throughout the population.
