The Borough of Wisbech was the port authority for this part of the River Nene. The emblem of Wisbech is the cross keys of St Peter.[2][3]
I know you have two cites for this but (a) Wisbech itself doesn't seem to notice or care and the information should be added there and (b), even if it's not entirely mistaken, the "information" seems to be irrelevant. The actual name came from the landmark or settlement of Cross Keys or Crosskeys, itself named after the former enormous fen discussed in the article for Sutton Bridge. The name stuck with the bridge after it was moved from its original location.
It may be related to Walpole Cross Keys, although that seems to be on the opposite side of Walpole St Andrew from where it was formerly. In any case, off hand, the parish church at Walpole St Peter seems a more likely namesake than Wisbech's, even if that were somehow connected to Peters' keys in a way that the current Wisbech article doesn't bother mentioning. — LlywelynII 14:57, 27 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
