Corpus on a silver and gilt processional cross, from San Salvador de Fuente, Asturias, late 11th-early 12th century (Metropolitan Museum of Art)

Corpus (sculpture) is actually a genre of European sculpture depicting the body of Christ on the Cross. In a crucifix, the corpus is separate from the cross, the label INRI, the hill of Golgotha, the skull of Adam etc etc. The earliest large-scale sculptural depictions of the body of Christ are Romanesque, such as the late-tenth century Gero Cross or the original of the Holy Face of Lucca. This subject needs a Wikipedia article: I can't find a link at Corpus, which is a disambiguation page.--Wetman (talk) 06:36, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
