Corpus (sculpture) is actually a genre of European sculpture depicting the body of Christ on the Cross. In a crucifix, the corpus is separate from the cross, the label INRI, the hill of Golgotha, the skull of Adam etc etc. The earliest large-scale sculptural depictions of the body of Christ are Romanesque, such as the late-tenth century Gero Cross or the original of the Holy Face of Lucca.
