Needs thorough writeup; crossover with Grand Ronde, Oregon somewhat; still pending is Grand Ronde Indian Reservation, which is extinct but should be written up. -- Skookum1 (8 May 06)

Merger

I feel that the article Spirit Mountain Casino (Oregon) should be merged with Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon as their is very little information pertaining to the casino and therefore, I do not feel that it is substantial enough to stand alone. • Oppose-I think the casino article merits expansion, not merger. We have various categories and lists about casinos in the U.S. and Oregon that would be rendered less useful if the casinos were merged with the tribal articles. Katr67 16:50, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
• Hi. It's fine with me to merge these. I dont know why there needs to be lists about casinos anyway. I suppose it's good for gamblers and advertising for the tribes. Since there is almost nothing written on the tribes, maybe attention should focused on this article. • Oppose Like it or not, this casino is likely one of the largest tourist attractions in the state. It would be nice if someone knowledgable expanded on the tribe's page, too. However, the history of and info about the tribe is one distinct subject. It's largest and most successful project should be a separate and distinct entity. Bryan2000 05:32, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
• Oppose This is an aboriginal government article, the casino is a different entity owned by that government. It's good that Grand Ronde Community and this article are separate, because the standard in the WikiProject Indigenous peoples of North America for ethno/people and government articles to be separate. French Canadian/Iroquoian

In the liat of member peoples "French-Canadian (Iroquoian)" is given.....well, ultimately, yes, and I know there were HBC staffers who were entirely Alqonquian and not of part-French stock; but the easier and more common name for French Canadians intermingled with Iroquoians (or not necessarily Iroquoians but Siouxans and others....) is Metis. I don't know if the people of this inheritance at Grand Ronde identify that way; but perhaps they should; I know the Metis organizations would welcome them as long-lost kin, which indeed they are.....Skookum1 (talk) 23:01, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I did some cleanup of your edits based on Wikipedia formatting--hopefully the tribal names I put in parentheses are accurate--unfortunately not all these tribes have their own articles yet, so they may redirect to disambiguation pages. P.S. Any reason why mention of the casino (and timber revenue) was taken out? I know some people tend to fixate on Indian casinos, ignoring 500 years of other history, but as mentioned above, it is a significant part of the tribal economy. Katr67 02:48, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

I have no problem with mentioning the casino, but there is another page devoted to that topic, so redundancy is an issue here. But info about personal and member finances I would highly discourage.I do have an extensive list of references to add to the page. Re: Casino. Yes there is another page devoted to that topic, so all we need to do is have a link to it like there was previously. Chinook Jargon -- a pidgin?

Technically speaking, Chinook Jargon would have stopped being a pidgin and started becoming a creole when it began being spoken as a first language at Grand Ronde. Chinook Jargon's always been a pidgin, a language used to communicate between people with different first languages.
