Player name approach edit

1 - FULL name "José Manuel Flores Moreno"; 2 - SPORTING name "Chico", not "Chico Flores" or any other shenanigan!

Easy no? --AL (talk) 19:27, 24 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

I shall, with my own two cents, offer an alternative per WP:COMMONNAME. "José Manuel Flores" gets 6.5 million English Google results, "Chico Flores" over 23 million. The same as the player legally known as "Luís da Cunha" is overwhelmingly known more as Nani. But I won't be arrogant enough to move it without some consensus. I hope it did not sound i was going to move page without consensus, i will not. --AL (talk) 21:54, 24 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

It takes a pretty cynical lack of respect for your fellow professionals to throw yourself to the ground with the sole intention of getting an opponent unjustly sent off. I hope Flores had the decency to apologise to Andy Carroll on the lines of @Nothing personal mate but you were murdering us out there. But I somehow doubt it. Decency is not a quality you would associate with Chico Flores. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.140.184 (talk) 18:44, 19 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

– The sources on the former Swansea Chico appears to still name him as "Chico Flores" in multiple languages including Spanish instead of just a one name person. It would make sense for the other one to drop the "February" out of that title since the rest of the Chicos don't have the months in their titles while searching in the search bar for the articles. 46.149.249.106 (talk) 12:20, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Support 1st per WP:NATURAL, Oppose 2nd since it doesn't disambiguate enough.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:34, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Ditto Red Slash 19:48, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose 2nd, while the 1st may be a good idea per WP:NATURAL it may still be the March one's most common name so is likely still be ambiguous, the March one gets 400 views compared with only 61[[1]] for the February one. Also Google results for Chico (footballer, born 1987) appear to mainly return the March one, this article is the 1st result. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:50, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 21:35, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose both, but especially second, as ambiguous (because there are two footballers called Chico born in 1987! GiantSnowman 21:38, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 1st per WP:NATURAL. Note this would simply revert an undiscussed move from June 2017. Neutral on 2nd: If it were moved, a hatnote from the other article to this one would suffice, but it makes no significant difference. Station1 (talk) 21:57, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 2nd, stronly Oppose 1st ("Chico Flores" is a name/nickname compound! Can't believe we're still at this) --2001:8A0:7667:5801:7CFE:3F46:C368:3080 (talk) 04:28, 30 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

In case i did not word it right (apologies by the way, in case of that scenario): yes, i would prefer any naming option containing "Chico, footballer" and year/month, but no "Chico Flores" please (for the reasons explained above, name/nickname compound) --193.137.135.2 (talk) 11:38, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Support 1st It's the most natural disambiguation and readers will more easily find who they are looking for as they may not know his birth date. Neutral on 2nd, both options seem fair. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:03, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Comparison: Nano (footballer, born 1982) was wrongly moved to "Nano Macedo" back in the day (again, name/nickname compound). It now rests under a (more) correct title, and page move was discussed as you can see in the article's talkpage; same M.O. should be applied here in my humble opinion. --193.137.135.2 (talk) 13:50, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • I think they are slightly different, Nano is never called "Nano Macedo", while this Chico is sometimes called "Chico Flores". And as per WP:NATURAL, being at "Chico Flores" is preferable to "(footballer, born March 1987)", since it's a WP:COMMONNAME even if it's not the main on.--Ortizesp (talk) 15:28, 31 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 1st, Oppose 2nd. Rename Chico (Brazilian footballer, born 1987). Country is best when trying to disambiguate two footballers born in the same year, although we don't otherwise use it. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:58, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 1st - as I am quoting the similar comment on Talk:Jota (Spanish footballer), I'm not certain as to why "Chico Flores" is a nickname compound when it was moved back in 2017. He also calls himself by that name on Instagram as well but the website on that profile is apparently dodgy for further proof.
  • The second one: I don't know much about the other one to say "Chico" is the common name but checking sources and external links, only three work and all name him Chico, suggesting that is his common name but returning that page to the nominator's suggestion may not work when there are at least two with the same birth year which is in line with the working sources and other comments above are opposing the second point as well. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support 1st, Oppose 2nd As others have pointed out, WP:COMMONNAME makes the first one a no-brainer. Whether it's a nickname is immaterial here. The 2nd one should be kept as is since it eliminates any potential confusion. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 17:25, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
