Whau Lunatic AsylumCarrington Hospital – Common name as shown by Google Scholar results where it's more than 5 times more common than names using Whau and more common than Oakley Hospital. The name Carrington Hospital is more common in Google News results, is used by the NZ encyclopaedia: [1] and is used by the Ministry of Urban Development in their Carrington development: [2] Recent sources use the name Carrington Hospital typically whilst historic sources use different versions of the old name. Support - clearly the most commonly used and recognisable name. Prosperosity (talk) 00:01, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Should this article be about the asylum or the building itself?

edit

Per title. Any article on the hospital will mention the building and vice versa. The main thing that would change would be the infobox: from infobox hospital to infobox building and the wording of the lead.

I'm not sure which option would be the best, both things are notable and encyclopaedic but a split is not beneficial here. I'm leaning towards the building given it's heritage listing, it's iconicness as a landmark for the Carrington area, and because it will continue to be used whilst the asylum has been long shut (although part of the land is used for a modern asylum and there are multiple mental health/psychiatric buildings in the area).
