No, Lemon drop (pepper) should not be merged with Capsicum baccatum. Is habanero merged with C. chinense? NO.

Botanist8 replies:Wm. Woys Weaver wrote an erroneous article stating Lemon Drop was the same as Aji Limo. As a Botanist who has grown both Aji Limo and Lemon Drop, I can say with conviction: "Lemon Drop" is Capsicum baccatum. The corollas have green spots and the seed is tan; these are defining taxonomic traits. Aji Limo, despite the phonetic similarities, is not related to Lemon, Lima, etc.; "Limo" is just a name. Aji Limo comes in many colors and the flowers appear in two or more per node, which classifies it as C. chinense. I've been to Peru and have studied the Capsicum species there, as well as grown them in the US. Aji Panca, while classified as C. chinense, because of the multiple flowers per node, may represent an interspecific hybrid, as its morphology does not line up neatly with other C. chinense. C. baccatum can cross with C. chinense.
