I work for a public relations firm called Olson that manages marketing and communications for Burns & Wilcox. I would like the community's input on a few possible changes, detailed below.

Intro: I propose revising the introductory section to reflect updated company information, specifically regarding product offerings and data on revenue and total offices. The replacement copy (with sources) should read as follows:

Burns & Wilcox is North America’s largest privately-held wholesale broker and underwriting manager with more than 45 offices across the United States and Canada. The company offers over 300 insurance products and employs more than 1,200 specialty insurance professionals.[1]

Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Metropolitan Detroit, Burns & Wilcox is internationally recognized for its insurance brokerage and underwriting expertise in commercial and professional liability, property, marine and personal insurance.[2]

Burns & Wilcox is the largest insurance wholesale broker and managing underwriter in North America.[1] Founded in 1969 by Herbert W. Kaufman[2] and headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan[3], the company operates across more than 60 offices in North America.

Burns & Wilcox is a family-run company with Herbert's son Alan Jay Kaufman serving as Chairman, President, and CEO[4], grandson Daniel Jay Kaufman serving as Senior Vice President of Corporate Growth[5] and granddaughter Jodie Kaufman Davis serving as Corporate Vice President and Managing Director of Burns & Wilcox Canada.[6] The company also operates divisions of Burns & Wilcox including Burns & Wilcox Brokerage, Burns & Wilcox Canada and Burns & Wilcox Reinsurance. The company’s products are categorized within Commercial Lines, Personal Lines and Professional Lines sectors.[7]

In 1996, Alan Jay Kaufman took H.W. Kaufman Group and its largest subsidiary, Burns & Wilcox, private.[8] No one named "Burns" nor "Wilcox" was involved in the founding or growth of the company; the name was chosen by Herbert W. Kaufman because he thought it carried a strong professional undertone.

Burns & Wilcox offers specialty insurance services for brokers and agents[9], offers excess and surplus lines of insurance[10] and works with admitted and non-admitted carriers.[11] The company also offers personal liability, commercial property, transportation, recreation, environmental, risk management and professional liability, among other services.[12]

Alan Jay Kaufman edit

Alan Jay Kaufman serves as Chairman, President and CEO of H.W. Kaufman Group, headquartered in Farmington Hills, Michigan.[18] He also is founding senior partner of Kaufman, Payton & Chapa, a Detroit and Farmington Hills law firm.[19]

In 1996, Kaufman purchased the company from his father and its other shareholders.[20] Under his leadership, both H.W. Kaufman Group and the companies in its portfolio reached $2 billion in revenue in 2016. </ref> The company generates more than $2 billion in annual revenue,[21] Burns & Wilcox, H.W. Kaufman Group’s flagship company has generated over $1.5 billion in annual premium. [22]

Ernst & Young selected Alan Jay Kaufman as a regional winner in their Entrepreneur of the Year program for the Michigan and Northwest Ohio Business Services category in 2011. [23]

Insurance Market Source edit

Burns & Wilcox publishes Insurance Market Source magazine (formerly titled Agents Market Source) that examines industry trends, marketing strategies and product spotlights. The magazine features articles written by Burns & Wilcox employees as well as outside industry sources and is distributed once a year, as well as in an online format that publishes new articles weekly.

Partnerships edit

In 2017, Burns & Wilcox signed a deal with Olympia Entertainment and the Detroit Red Wings. [24] In 2018, the firm announced its sponsorship of the Detroit Red Wings co-captain Justin Abdelkader. [25] The company also sponsors The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass winner Webb Simpson and 2016 PGA champion Jimmy Walker. [26] [27]
