Given the date, it's reasonable to assume that miners who had been to the goldfields in BC and elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest used this term in its Chinook Jargon sense, which simply meant "white" i.e. "American" (as opposed to King George/Kinchauch which was for Britons)....the origins of the term are in the marine fur trade, when American ships were mostly from Boston....Boston Bar, British Columbia was so-named because many Americans mined there; around that area today if a native calls out "hey, Boston!", he's saying "hey white man" (personal citation, can't cite that).Skookum1 (talk) 14:56, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
