The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: move the pages to Black and Gold (Sam Sparro song) and Black and Gold (Will Coleman song). Please add other entries to the resulting dab page as necessary. Dekimasuよ! 19:10, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

– The Cornish folk song is a song too. Unreal7 (talk) 00:00, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Support (Sam Sparro song), no need for move proposal - the Sam Sparro song is in breach of WP:NCM and should just be moved, staggering that it has remained in breach for so long and thumbs up to Unreal7 for spotting it. Suggest this is closed and discussion opened on WikiProject Cornwall about whether the Cornish song needs more than a hatnote. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:33, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Re the second Black and Gold (Will Coleman song) might be nearer the truth? As for the dab page black and gold should be small font. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:10, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Here's an idea- Why not merge both in to one ? .... Seems the folk song isn't exactly well known ... Failing that I agree with IIO a discussion should take place re names. –Davey2010(talk) 06:08, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Why?
  • That's an idea, why not merge everything that has the same name? Gets rid of all those blasted primarytopic RMs. --Richhoncho (talk) 12:38, 11 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Irony isn't needed nor helpful. –Davey2010(talk) 21:09, 12 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Support renames per nom. Replace with disambiguation page. "black and gold" also refers to pro sports in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, primarily the Steelers, and then the Penguins. As well as the Boston Bruins [1][http://www.amazon.com/Black-Gold-Decades-Boston-Photographs/dp/047015473X]; not to mention possible confusion with "black gold" and "gold black" ; and "gold and black" -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 06:10, 10 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have no problem with this song being moved to Black and Gold (Will Coleman song) -- the ammended proposal for the title of this article is acceptable to me. -- 67.70.35.44 (talk) 05:59, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
User:Unreal7 67.70.35.44 User:Richhoncho User:Davey2010 suggest the RM is changed to Support Black and Gold (Will Coleman song) I posted on WP Cornwall and did, as far as I could, a search for any traditional folk song underlying this, at this point the best guess is that these are Will Coleman lyrics to a traditional Galician or Breton tune, since that's how a lot of the Cornish culture "resurrection" is being done, but unless sources ride out of the mist this looks more like a Will Coleman or Dalla (band) song than a real folk song. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:24, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Having read both articles (and again this morning) I can see no connection between the two songs other than the title- hence my comment above. If on the other hand they are the same song then the two articles should be rewritten and merged per WP:NSONGS. --Richhoncho (talk) 09:08, 13 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Support both, with no particular preference for whether Will Coleman (we don't seem to have an article on this particular person) gets a credit in the disambiguator of the second article or not. Andrewa (talk) 15:15, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 25 April 2016 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move. Consensus is that the Sam Sparro song is the primary topic. The dab page will be moved to Black and Gold (disambiguation). Cúchullain t/c 15:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

– Only two real topics (the EP isn't notable at all as nothing links to it except, until just now, the dab page) and the Sam Sparro song is a million times more notable. I should've done this two years ago instead of the other one, but I'm doing it now.[2] Unreal7 (talk) 15:47, 25 April 2016 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 14:37, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well what do you know? It's the return of the "something else of the same name exists and therefore there is automically no primary topic" argument. Unreal7 (talk) 20:19, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
No, it's the argument that we have five criteria at WP:TITLE and that ambiguating articles WP:Naming conventions music doesn't help readers. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:38, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's a guideline, not a law - you don't have to follow it. Unreal7 (talk) 12:32, 28 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose deleting the dab page. "Black and Gold" is the nickname for many sports teams, such as the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Steelers -- 70.51.46.195 (talk) 12:09, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. The Sam Sparro song gets nearly 100x the views of the folk song article. The dab page also gets an inordinate number of views. Switching the Sparro song to primarytopic should help with that. Dohn joe (talk) 14:40, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
There's no possibility than anyone searching "Black and Gold" could be looking for the colors of the Steelers? see Steve Hickoff The Pittsburgh Steelers Playbook 1633193934 - 2015 "Not done just yet, Pittsburgh scored on its next possession: a 26 yard touchdown run by veteran John L. Williams through a hole provided courtesy of the Steelers' offensive line. Along the way, the Black and Gold defense intimidated the ..." In ictu oculi (talk) 18:40, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Even if every single person visiting the dab page were looking for the Steelers (or something besides the Sparro song), that would still leave 77% visiting the Sparro song page. And obviously, that's not the case, so 77% is a bare minimum usage number for the Sparro song page. Dohn joe (talk) 19:49, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Of course with page views we'd always ambiguate recent pop songs and not let readers see either (song) or artist. But Google Books mentions of "Black and Gold" are much more akin to pageviews for the Steelers and Bruins in which Sam Sparro, as in books, vanishes into insignificance: [3]. Plus when the nom of this move has deleted the sports team Black and Gold from the disambiguation page how are readers going to find Black and Gold related to sports teams? In ictu oculi (talk) 08:42, 28 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Even Donald Trump makes more sense than you, IIO. No one in their right mind goes onto Wikipedia to type in colours with the intention of finding a sports team. Unreal7 (talk) 12:35, 28 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Relisted as a multi-move. Better to keep the dab in this situation if it is to be moved. Jenks24 (talk) 14:37, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Strongest possible support, Sparro's song is the primary topic by a country mile, and not even the oppose votes seem to dispute that. Stats numbers aside, just look at the articles, I see just a single genuine notable topic and two permastubs which merely exist and which have very dubious notability. No reasonable argument for not moving the page was made, the dumb colour team argument is awkard and fading and should be enterely discounted (it is like saying Blond should actually be a dab page listing all the people who are/could be described as blond). Cavarrone 21:12, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm one of the editors that removed the sports teams from the dab page. While an argument could be made that fully-professional teams and top-flight amateur teams should be listed, especially if like the Steelers they are referred to frequently by the color combination, I saw scope creep happening because high school teams started to be listed. If we really need the teams broken out, let's do a see also to List of sports teams with black and gold as team colors. But that's a project for another day; today's agenda item is whether the Sam Sparro song is the primary topic for black and gold.
Support based on the information presented that the Sam Sparro song is the primary topic. Yes, this may be a bias toward pop music, but I think it's the best interpretation of the naming guidelines. And yes, I do think having a dab page going forward is a good idea. —C.Fred (talk) 01:03, 4 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
For the record what was removed was 2 major teams - Bruins and Steelers, plus the McKinley school in Hawaii (not just any school) and 4th Cornish colours - each of which is more common for "Black and Gold" in GBooks than this song. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:11, 5 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Generally i tend to look at how high the dab page's views are in these cases, and in this case they are pretty high, indicating that there is a problem in need of fixing. InsertCleverPhraseHere 09:29, 8 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
