This article is disturbingly short. A man of such stature warrents a longer write up. I will help anyone who is willing to commit.

This comes mostly from the article about Moitessier in the French Wikipedia. The titles and dates for his books are the original French ones. The English translations of the titles are from the English editions. This could use more about his family and personal history (he fought against the Viet Minh, I think). completed circumnavigation or not? edit

The article seems to say that he didn't finish the circumnavigation (and thus the race) but then says:

Moitessier circumnavigated the world and sailed almost two-thirds of the way round a second time

This seems to contradict and should be clarified. --Singkong2005 tc 05:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moitessier did not complete the race, but turned around in the Atlantic, went past the Cape of Good Hope a 2nd time and finally stopped in Tahiti. Amazingly he did this without resupplying or contacting the outside world, if I remember correctly he could not even get a message off to his loved ones while passing the Cape and was assumed lost at sea. I agree that this article is "disturbingly short" as this man influenced the world of sailing/yachting immeasurably.

Removal of Link/Reference to Reid Stowe edit

Skol fir, while I certainly appreciate your efforts in trying to promote Reid Stowe here at Wikipedia, I don't think that including a link to his BLP is appropriate. Should we list each and every sailor that was inspired by Moitessier in this article? What of other biographies of inspirational people? Should we do the same?

Also, as has been discussed at the Stowe article, Stowe never met Motessier, though on a number of occasions he has falsely claimed he had. He met people who met Mortessier, and read his book. He may very well have been inspired by the man, but that's not worthy of inclusion in Mortessier's bio, unless you think the Wiki article on the Holy Bible should cross reference every Wiki bio where the subjects were inspired by reading it. child edit

I agree that such an important figure deserves a longer entry. But this is actually quite good. I would like a mention of his partner and their son Stephan who seems to have had an extraordinary childhood. 70.26.152.54 (talk) 18:38, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
