Talk:Bear Camp Road

Glad to see an article started. Might be better to refer to the mountains as the Siskiyou Mountains. Geologically, the Oregon Coast Range lies northward, beyond the Coquille River area. An important distiction is that the Coast Range elevations are much lower; many Siskiyou peaks in the Bear Camp vicinity are 1,500+ feet higher than the tallest Coast Range mountain (4,097 ft. Mary's Peak) and--as much older mountains--the Siskiyous have eroded to a more rugged terrain. Boo Twitty 19:38, 11 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge of Dewitt Finley into this article proposed edit

Looks to me like the article Dewitt Finley should be merged into this article. Yaf 05:03, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't see anything in this article pertaining to Bear Camp Road that doesn't already appear in that article. Pop Secret 05:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

some inaccuracies edit

James Kim did not end up only one mile from the family car. If the car had actually been at the spot where it was first reported, then that would be true. The correct location of the car was approximately 4 miles as the crow flies from where Mr. Kim's body was found. Also, with the correct vehicle postion, it would have made for an 11 mile journey on the road and a 5 mile journey down the canyon for a total of 16 miles.

As for the Stivers, they did not take a wrong turn off of Bear Camp. They may have intended to take Bear Camp but instead passed by the turn-off for that road and crossed a bridge over the Rogue River at Graves Creek. They were found on the north side of the river in a different road system. The Kim family was found on the south side of the river. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.186.122.156 (talk) 08:37, 20 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

Then why not fix it on the main page, instead of just complaining!? You seem to know what you're talking about, cite it and post it! --Chris 00:20, 21 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't complaining, so don't get so excited. I am unfamiliar with the procedure for changing a wiki, thus I figured I'd note the inaccuracies here and allow the original author to correct.

The Stivers were on the Mt. Reuben/Eden Valley Road, on the north side of the Rogue River. Bear Camp Road runs above the south side of the Rogue River. I'd delete the entire section about the Stivers out but it's an interesting story. There apparently is no page about Eden Valley or Mt. Reuben Roads. There is a page on Marial, though.68.116.40.228 (talk) 21:48, 15 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speculation: that locals "often drive up Bear Camp Road just to see how far they can get." While the mountains may be your playground, to many people it is their place of work, and they are up there earning money in ways you may not be able to fathom (wood cutting, mushroom harvesting, wild plant harvests, guide services, etc.) --Bodie the Dog —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.32.33.98 (talk) 19:36, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
