Against Open Bay

edit

Hello, I'm the creator of this article in the Spanish Wikipedia and I've done some research. The Battle of Open Bay should be another battle, as it meant a different landing in the opposite side in New Britain.

But they were both pretty small and highly inter-related battles. It seems to me to be better to treat them together, though of course you're very welcome to use a different approach elsewhere if you wish! Nick-D (talk) 08:51, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
G'day, thanks for sharing your opinion. The key objective of the Australian effort was to establish the defensive line across the island between Open Bay and Wide Bay to isolate the Japanese on the Gazelle Peninsula. Employing what we would now call a manoeuvrist approach, they advanced on two lines to achieve this one goal and moved troops between the two locations overland and by barge. Hence, I would argue it is essentially the one battle. In addition, if we treat them separately we either produce two very short articles, or essentially reproduce much of the same content. Hence, I think it more efficient to cover them together. There is, of course, still room for improvement in this article, but I'm not convinced it is worthwhile splitting the two topics on purely geographical terms. I note that the Spanish article on Wide Bay is currently a stub, while there doesn't yet seem to be one for Open Bay. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:32, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
