Assessment edit

This article contains all the basic information, including a prelude, aftermath, and some detail of the battle itself, as well as an infobox. I do not know if further detail of the battle is available, or an image for the infobox, but these seem to be the only glaring omissions. LordAmeth 16:48, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sources anyone? To have this much detail it must have been gotten from a book. At least list the book, even if it's in some other language (namely of course in Chinese). Of even a website is better than nothing. ParallelPain 06:01, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Extensive revision edit

The article claims that the battle was fought in April 1644; I have a book source (Davis, Paul K. 100 Decisive Battles: From Ancient Times to the Present. ISBN 0-19-514366-3) that dates the battle to 28 May 1644. Where does the April date come from?

I presume that the May one is correct; April doesn't make sense, as Beijing didn't fall to Li Zicheng's forces until the 25th of that month. I thought that the difference was caused by the gap between the Julian and Gregorian calendars, or something like that, but that was only 10 days in 1644. I'll try to go through the article later and correct the problem. Segregold (talk) 22:50, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Segregold, You're right: all the dates in the articles were wrong because whoever wrote it converted "4th day of the 4th lunar month" directly into "April 4th" all throughout the wiki. In other words, they took lunar dates as direct equivalent of the Gregorian calendar. Madalibi (talk) 04:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and more or less completely rewrote the article. The information here contradicted what I myself had read and what the linked internet source indicated, and seems to have been based on a discredited 1898 history of China. If anyone who knows more about the battle than I do can make further corrections, I encourage you to do so. Segregold (talk) 00:08, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some of the paragraphs you left in your re-writing out might have contained relevant information. I'll try to see what I can do. Thanks for taking care of the article! Madalibi (talk) 04:22, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

What to do with the "Timeline" edit

I'm almost done rewriting this wiki. Among other things, I added a detailed "Timeline" at the end, but I'm not sure where this timeline fits best. Should it come at the beginning? Is it right where it should be? Should it be moved to its own wiki (Timeline of the Battle of Shanhai Pass)? Any suggestions? Thanks! Madalibi (talk) 13:22, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reverted vandalism edit

Just reverted 3 separate occasions of vandalism by 213.55.84.66 on 5 December 2013. In the 'edit summary' I forgot to include that the revert was going back to my edit at 15:54, 9 November 2013 (the last good edit before the vandalism). Sorry. Xenxax (talk) 13:57, 5 December 2013 (UTC)‎Reply

Popular Culture? edit

Is the battle in this film a loosely-connected version of this battle? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120762/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Terry Thorgaard (talk) 21:45, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wording edit

The intro paragraph says that the battle led to the formation of the Qing, but the first paragraph describes "Qing" forces fighting Ming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.115.97.89 (talk) 02:20, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Weapons /technology used? edit

I think it would be good if this article contained some information about what kind of weapons the two sides were using. I don't know anything about Chinese warfare in this period, but the year is 1644 so does that mean there were muskets and artillery being used or was it all swords and crossbows, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LastDodo (talkcontribs) 16:01, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
