Was Stone kicked out of the Kentucky Presbytery or did he withdraw and from the Springfield Presbytery only to dissolve it, or both? Didn't "Stone's "newfound belief . . ." grew out the earlier, long-term influence of O'Kelly and McGready? He was only ordained by the Presbyterians because he gave a trick answer to one of their ordination questions. I invite attention to the following sources:

  • Garrison, Winfred Earnest and DeGroot, Alfred T. (1948). The Disciples of Christ, A History, St Louis, Missouri: The Bethany Press
  • McAlister, Lester G. and Tucker, William E. (1975), Journey in Faith: A History of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) - St. Louis, Chalice Press, ISBN 9780827217034

I am certain that there are also other sources that may have a bit different perspective to draw from, as well. John Park (talk) 14:21, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Beliefs edit

I question the false statement that Stone was kicked out of the Presbyterian Church because he preached salvation "by faith alone." All the denominations that emerged out of the Reformation preached salvation by faith alone; this was the crucial doctrinal conflict with Roman Catholicism. All the Reformed & Presbyterian confessions and catechisms teach that salvation is by faith alone. This should be corrected, unless there was something about the particular denomination to which Stone belonged in that time, at that place, that deviated from basic Presbyterian dogma. If that's the case, then that distinction ought to be clarified. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Censorious Minimus (talkcontribs) 20:43, 31 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think there was more to his arguments with the Presbyterians. Have to check other sources.Parkwells (talk) 15:01, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lead Paragraph Sources edit

Is the entire lead section sourced from the two sources names at the end of the three paragraphs? Or are those sources limited to the third paragraph? XZealous (talk) 13:19, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
