Talk:Bangalore City railway station

Just a doubt edit

Is Bangalore City Railway Station and Bangalore Central Railway station same? If yes, we may require a redirection page too. --Bhadani (talk) 16:16, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

There's nothing called Bangalore Central Station. Maybe you're referring to Bangalore City Junction. Swaroop (talk) 16:26, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Page In need of a total rewrite edit

This page badly needs a total rewrite. The trains leaving Bangalore everyday are lots more than just to Hubli. A mention of Yeshvantpur is to be done. Infrastructure is also to be mentioned. Bangalore City railway stationKrantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway stationWP:Commonname, MOS:CAPS and WP:consistency . See above (#Move) news article as evidence for common name, posted by user:Sai199610, the very original nominator at WP:RM/TR. Matthew hk (talk) 06:50, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support: KSR is the concern. I added Bengaluru Station since if you see the name boards in the station its is mentioned as Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru Station).Sai199610 (talk) 07:12, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
And what I feel very common from CSMT, MGR Chennai Central is that with time, the official name is accepted as the common name.Sai199610 (talk) 07:12, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think even Bangalore and Mangalore can also be moved to Bengaluru and Mangaluru. And I also feel that there is no need to revert Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station to Chennai Central railway station. The examples that can be taken into consideration are Mumbai and Chennai when they were changed from Bombay and Madras respectively. The reason is what I mentioned above.Sai199610 (talk) 07:14, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
You are the nom, the nom doesn't normally support own RM. And no, Bangalore and Mangalore cannot also be moved to Bengaluru and Mangaluru. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:40, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I was supporting as even if I am the original nom, the fresh move request is made by User:Matthew hk. And why can't Bangalore and Mangalore be moved (if not now might be years later) when the current official name will be used commonly (i.e., when it becomes the common name). Even now certain newspaper articles (not certain in fact all) can prove the official names to be the common names.Sai199610 (talk) 04:02, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes but the move request is to change to KSR railway station. The sources that I have provided suggest the common name to be Bengaluru's KSR railway station. Please provide a reliable source mentioning the name you suggest.Sai199610 (talk) 13:05, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't think so that when KSR is used, "Bangalore" is ever used. In fact Bengaluru is used.Sai199610 (talk) 13:14, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, the name that has been proposed is certainly not the common name! It almost always seems to be abbreviated KSR and appended to Bangalore City or Bengaluru City. So probably best to keep the name as it is. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:24, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have never heard it to be KSR Bangalore City or KSR Bengaluru City. Its either know to be KSR or KSR Bengaluru. And when you say KSR is used there is no point in keeping it the way it is now.Sai199610 (talk) 14:01, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Look on Google. You'll find many examples. I said it was used; I didn't say it was the common name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:10, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I meant KSR station is used in sources like Newspaper articles. That can be considered as a common name. According to me the name that is used commonly is the common name.Sai199610 (talk) 14:40, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment I like people bluffing common name as a slogan without given valid evidence such as newspaper article or Google Ngram. Since Google Ngram return no result, here is an incomplete Google trends comparison ([1], but It seems KSR railway station had equal popularity as Bangalore City railway station which the latter was polluted by wikipedia echo.
I don't mind changing the proposal to KSR railway station. While for WP:COMMONNAME, it seem at least "Bangalore City railway station" is not the only common name. Matthew hk (talk) 19:05, 19 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Please provide reliable evidence while opposing. There is no need to keep it as KSR railway station as KSR stand for what has been proposed.Sai199610 (talk) 03:50, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Further to evidence. Since there is no google ngram, manually analyzing news articles would have much bias, but at least have some in sight. So, i picked one newspaper to do this first:
  • Times of India article 1: "Bengaluru City railway station" in article title, "KSR Bengaluru City railway station " in the main body
  • Times of India article 2": "KSR station" in the article title, " Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna railway station" in the main body
  • Times of India article 3: "KSR Bengaluru City" and "KSR City railway station" in the main body
  • Times of India article 4: "KSR City railway station" in the main body
  • Times of India article 5: "Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) station" in the main body
Feel free to rebut me by listing the news articles , as i haven't done on The New Indian Express, The Indian Express, The News Minute, The News Minute and other newspapers., Matthew hk (talk) 06:37, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have provided articles from The News Minute and The New Indian Express. True. Just opposing without providing proper source/evidences makes no sense.Sai199610 (talk) 07:10, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The onus of proof is on those who propose and support a move, and I see no understanding of WP:AT in the above. Keep as is until and unless a valid and coherent case is made. Andrewa (talk) 10:08, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Andrewa:Hi! I am sorry I didn't get you can you please explain briefly.Sai199610 (talk) 16:04, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
No case has been made in terms of the article naming policy that I can see, nor has any attempt even been made to do so. Your initial !vote for example I will quote in full: KSR is the concern. I added Bengaluru Station since if you see the name boards in the station its is mentioned as Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru Station). [2] How do the station name boards, a primary source, support the contention that KSR is a concern? And no other evidence was presented. That's just an example.
You did add at the time: And what I feel very common from CSMT, MGR Chennai Central is that with time, the official name is accepted as the common name. What you feel is probably quite correct. But the policy as I understand it is not to anticipate in this way. Rather, we wait until the common name actually changes. We do give extra weight to recent secondary sources, but we still need those sources. (And these do not include news articles based on official press releases.)
So perhaps a case can be made. But it has not yet appeared above, despite many attempts. So my advice is, wait until we have relevant evidence, not just feelings based on primary sources. Andrewa (talk) 17:22, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
