International Airport or Airport of International Standards

I keep hearing it being referred to not as an International Airport, but as an Airport of International Standards. Even the billboard pointing to its location in McKinley Street, Silay City refers to it as the "Bacolod-Silay Airport". Just food for thought. -- • Kurt Guirnela • ‡ ^Talk 02:35, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

We'll never know. There is considerable debate over whether or not this is a domestic or international airport. Following "government plans" for the airport, I used the International Airport naming procedure. --Sky Harbor 07:02, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

The signage (made of metal letters on concrete so its definitely permanent) in front of the airport itself proclaims its name to be "New Bacolod-Silay Airport". I'll post an image soon. -- • Kurt Guirnela • ‡ ^Talk 11:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Just because the signage says something doesn't mean that it is the name most commonly used. Mandurriao Airport in Iloilo City had "Iloilo Airport" as its sign but it was still called the former. The same goes for Iloilo International Airport and "New Iloilo Airport" (on the sign). --Sky Harbor 13:42, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

An airport does not necessarily need to serve international flights to be an international airport. As long as it meets international standards, then it is an international airport. pikdig (talk) 10:13, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

according to the new CAAP classification of airports, Bacolod-Silay Airport is designated as a Principal Class 1 airport (formely called trunkline airport) and is not by any means international yet. the recognized international airports of the Philippines by t in fact includes Kalibo airport for Western Visayas.... see http://www.caap.gov.ph/Downloads/ncaapcoa.pdf Cemby (talk) 06:18, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

We must follow the CAAP classification it is the aviation authority in the country. On the other hand, the runway in Bacolod-Silay is too short (2000m). International airports such as Puerto Princesa and Iloilo has a runway of 2600m and 2500m. Davao has 3000m and Clark has 3200m. Also these airports has a regular international flights, while Bacolod-Silay doesn't. Felee Morit (talk) 00:33, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

Rename proposal

I propose renaming/moving the article to Bacolod-Silay Airport for a couple of reasons:

• It is the simple official name of the airport. Adding 'City' and 'International' somewhere in there is in contradiction to the name given in the official website of the airport (except for the 'About us' section which was clearly copied from Wikipedia).
• Signages leading to the airport as well as the actual name on the main airport building indicate that the name does not include the words 'City' or 'International.'
• In the proposed name, the presence or absence of international flights does not affect the name, just as the Puerto Princesa Airport does not need the word 'International' to indicate that it is already classified by the CAAP as such, or other more well-known international airports such as Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Madrid-Barajas or London-Heathrow.
• From basic googling, I can't really find government sources that clearly label the airport as "Bacolod-Silay City International Airport." Compared to "Bacolod-Silay Airport," the current name turned up far fewer hits. Maybe I'm wrong, but if someone could put forward more convincing sources in support of the current name other than Wikipedia entries, it would be appreciated.

The current name sounds very unofficial (to be honest, just made up), and is awkward (what's the use of 'City' in there, really?) in terms of standard airport nomenclature. Dakilang Isagani (talk) 06:31, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Disagree. Most news articles refer to it as Bacolod-Silay City International Airport during its opening. PAL even mentions it as such. pikdig (talk) 05:59, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I only found a handful (around six) of news articles that refer to the airport as BSCIA, and while most others are calling it by its actual name (BSA). Check out the 708 Google results using the phrase "Bacolod-Silay City International Airport" versus the over 190,000 hits using the phrase "Bacolod-Silay Airport". I don't think we should base the decision of naming this airport article on select news items. Instead we should consult actual official sources, i.e. the airport management and their official website, and general public usage. Dakilang Isagani (talk) 00:33, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

CAAP classification

The cleanup I wrote was summarily reverted on the basis of an argument that Customs, Immigration and Quarantine booths are already in the airport. The edit, if it was bothered to be read at all, already addressed this, and is supported by references:

"By late 2014 the airport has been equipped with Customs, Immigration and Quarantine booths in preparation for the increase in international arrivals. Since October 2015 the Bureau of Immigration has also indicated readiness to deploy personnel at the airport should regularly scheduled international flights commence, but as of 2017, there are no regularly scheduled international flights operating to and from the airport."

FACT: CAAP/government classification is what determines the airport's status. The airport is still classified by the CAAP and other branches of government as a Class 1 domestic airport as of 2017. Unless someone can furnish official documents from the CAAP elevating the airport to international status, this airport should remain named Bacolod–Silay Airport. Therefore I am requesting the move, and also restoring the reverted edit (which also contains copy edits and improved references). - isagani (talk) 12:32, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
