TO OPEN SUBWAY LINK.
Loop Completed Between Broadway and Myrtle Ave. Lines in Brooklyn.

The new Myrtle Avenue connection of the BRT, which joins the Broadway, Brooklyn, and Myrtle Avenue lines, will be put in operation tomorrow afternoon at 5 o clock, in time to take care of the homegoing crowds. This is the first track under the dual subway system agreement to be put in operation, although the Loop line, which was built two or three years before the rapid transit agreement was made, began to run trains on Aug. 4. The connection will make possible a through service from Chambers Street through the Loop by the Williamsburg Bridge to Ridgewood without the change of cars at Myrtle Avenue and Broadway. The Ridgewood trains will start from Chambers Street and will run through to Metropolitan Avenue, the terminal station of the Lutheran Cemetery line. This will make it no longer necessary to operate a short line service from the Bowery station of the Loop line to Broadway and Myrtle Avenue in order to take care of the Ridgewood business.

Myrtle Ave El May 11, 1975 edit

article states it closed on Broadway to Jay Street closed on October 4, 1969

I recall riding in the "70's and found that the line closed May 11, 1975. At that time I attended Pratt Institute and took it a few times. I would walk from my school Pratt to the el it wasn't that far. Maybe it did not go to Jay St at that time. The IND stop was the GG train Clinton and Washington and you can see on a subway map that Myrtle Ave was not that far away

I think this needs to be spelled out what really happened on May 11, 1975. The issue is I don't have the information to explain the discrepancy.

Yes, it definitely seems to be a historical fact that the Myrtle El shut in 1969. You may have been thinking of a different line. ScottyBerg (talk) 18:36, 29 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
One of my childhood memories is of riding the Myrtle Avenue El on the last day it was operating. I had lived right next to the El until 1968 (when I was 5 years old), and then moved upstate, but visited Brooklyn to ride the El one last time, from Jay Street into Queens. Since I was just a little kid, I don't remember what year it was, but it must have been 1969. Yeah, I also have a distinct recollection of the Myrtle service ending from that period. By the way, the IP user who started this was apparently not aware, but RfCs are really to rectify disputes. This was actually the first time the issue was raised, and there was no real dispute on this and doesn't seem to be at present. I'm going to take the liberty of removing the tag, as the IP editor appears to agree that service ended in 1969, and also I believe that this RfC was commenced in misunderstanding of the purpose of the RfC.
