Talk:Attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II

[Untitled] edit

Okay. This article still needs a lot of work. Intangible2.0 21:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this needs work, in particular separating in one "Bulgarian connection" and "others theories" section. But it certainly warrants an article by itself, especially after the Mitrokhin's recent claims... Tazmaniacs 23:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The standard of English in this article is quite poor. Surely the title of the article should be Attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II with or without 1981 in front. I've tried to clean up the first sentence and first heading.212.140.167.99 17:24, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why Italy edit

Why was Ağca sentenced in Italy, when the crime was comitted inside the Vatican City State? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.248.218.214 (talk) 23:26, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Vatican has a prison and the swiss guard, but it is still not enough. the country is simply too small. Therefore, the Italian police are allowed in for crimes like murder and attempted murder. It is a "service" that the Vatican pays for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Farsight001 (talkcontribs) 09:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, it's because of the Treaty of 1929 between Italy and the Holy See. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.73.31.203 (talk) 21:04, 29 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Other Assassination attempts edit

I think it may be an fitting reference in the see also box, to mention that President Ronald Reagan, who along with John Paul II fought communism, was almost killed only two months earlier — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.22.89.136 (talk) 13:47, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The first sentences currently reads "The first assassination attempt..." implying there were other attempt to assassinate John Paul II, yet there are no references to any such attempts. Ouizardus (talk) 20:51, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Weird "Conspiracy" section edit

Just pulled the following from the article. Completely unencyclopedic and unsourced. If it weren't so hilariously audacious I would've just deleted it:

Some people think that Pope John Paul II was possessed by Jesus that day, and that the demon Apollyn had possessed Mehmet. The Demon was angry at Jesus, and he wanted Jesus to suffer another Mortal Death. After he shot John Paul, Satan appeared before him and sent him back to hell. After doing that its said, that Satan protected and healed John Paul. Back in hell, Satan explained Apollyn that they should wait until the time was right, before attacking the church. That he only healed John Paul in order for the church not to become suspicious about hell breaking loose on earth. Then, Satan punished Apollyn for being reckless. This is one of the reason that the church forgave Mehmet for the shooting since he was being possessed by evil.

Number of shots edit

The Italian wikipedia says that 2 shots were fired. Here 4 shots are reported. Who's right? --Gspinoza (talk) 08:55, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Rose Hall edit

The second person wounded in the assassination attempt has been identified variously as "Rose Hill" or "Rose Hall" and as either a resident of Jamaica or Massachusetts. (View the sources given in the article, or this one, to see what I mean.) All sources seem to agree that she was aged 21 at the time. RexSueciae (talk) 20:24, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
