Arrest and execution edit

So if "everything is on video" is there a link to the video? is there a link that sources that this video exists? anything? Just curious, since a claim like "everything is on video" should at least be sourced... --Idonthavetimeforthiscarp (talk) 17:09, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I’ve been looking for sources citing this “video” or the video itself but can’t find anything. I’ll keep looking but for now I canceled the statement, since it seems unverified. Please add it back with a source if found, I’d like to find said video.Idonthavetimeforthiscarp (talk) 18:00, 7 September 2010 (UTC) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMfpWgm2SP4Reply

POV edit

This article does not use very neutral language!

Here are some examples:

"Not only had they betrayed the high level of trust in them by the government and people of Cuba, the Court declared, but had placed the entire country in jeopardy by their actions".

"But most who voiced an opinion, while expressing sadness, accepted the decision as necessary in light of the grave danger Ochoa's actions had placed the country in".

"The death penalty is rarely invoked in Cuba, and this was the only time it was invoked against a popular and respected leader".

"He also fought against the invaders in the Bay of Pigs Invasion".

"Prosecutors had presented evidence that at least one pilot involved in the transfer of drugs had been contracted by the CIA, and argued that if the United States government instead of the Cuban government had discovered and revealed the involvement of high level Cuban military personnel in drug trafficking, that would have provided an excuse for invading Cuba. [Less than a year later, the US invaded Panama using Noriega's alleged involvement in drug trafficking as the justification.]"

"Alternatively, they surmised, if Cuba had gone ahead and appointed General Ochoa as head of the Western Army, the US would have been in a good position to blackmail and control one of the people most responsible for the country's security."

With the exception of one conspiracy theory at the end of the article, this entire article is written from the POV of the Cuban government. This article even alleges that the CIA contracted a drug dealing pilot in order to make it appear as if Cuba was involved in drug trafficking in order to launch an invasion as in Panama. While the US did use drug smuggling as one excuse for the United State invasion of Panama, "on 15 December, the Panamanian general assembly passed a resolution declaring that the actions of the United States had caused a state of war to exist between Panama and the United States. [18]". Tensions between the US and Panama were extremely high and "there had been numerous clashes between U.S. and Panamanian forces; one U.S. Marine had been killed a few days earlier".

I am not disputing the factuality of most of this article, but the wordage is extremely biased.Brianc26 (talk) 06:44, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Some of the facts are debatable, for example the article claims that Cuba rarely imposes the death penalty. While it is true that the death penalty has not been imposed in Cuba since 2003, Amnesty international claims that 237 Political Prisoners were given the death penalty between 1959 and 1987 (with admittedly a significantly lower amount of actual executions of political prisoners). Other figures claim higher numbers of Political Executions, some ranging between 4,000-33,000.Brianc26 (talk) 06:52, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

One of the theories posited for Ochoa's arrest and execution was that he had become a national hero, even rivalling the glory of Fidel himself. This is a dangerous condition for any Cuban to achieve. Castro had Ochoa framed up and shot to eliminate the rival, and to serve as a lesson to others not to get too big for their britches. 69.159.34.74 (talk) 02:11, 5 July 2013 (UTC)GriffinReply

Dishonest article edit

This article is extremely dishonest in that it makes no mention of Ochoa's military role as leader of the Cuban expeditionary force in the Angolan War with South Africa. The Cubans suffered a crushing defeat, and Ochoa told Raul Castro that he'd been sent to Africa as a scapegoat for the Cuban disaster. He was most likely guilty of the drug running and other crimes he was tried for, but that's not the real reason he was executed. This Wikipedia makes absolutely no mention of Ochoa's involvement in the Angola war, which is rather despicable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rezillo (talkcontribs) 02:53, 16 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
