"Theater" vs. "Theatre"
editI have no desire to be an editor, so I'm just putting this here for anyone who might like to actually make the change.
I danced in the Nikolais Dance Theater. Yes, "Theater", not "Theatre". That's what it says on all my old programs, that's what it says on their website (paragraph 2 of http://nikolaislouis.org/NikolaisLouis/Foundation.html). This article by Ruth Grauert, who was connected with the company from its earliest days and who, at the age of 100, still teaches its technique and esthetic, uses "theater" even to refer to the art form: http://bearnstowjournal.org/theaterAN.htm.
Pronunciation of his last name
edit(Again, I have no desire to be an editor. Just putting this out there.)
The article should include the pronunciation of his last name. This is important, because some other online encyclopedias have it incorrectly -- they have something like "nik-oh-LAY-iss." (Apparently one encyclopedia did this, and the others copied from it. That's what one of the copiers told me when I wrote to them to correct it.)
He actually pronounced it with a silent 's', "NIK-o-lie" (or "nickel-eye"). This is from personal knowledge (I was in his company), but also attested to by many, many video interviews with him, The Kennedy Center Honors video, etc., which are all online.
