WikiProject Dance To-do list:

Coordinators' working groupEdit

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators. All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:14, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Modern western square danceEdit

Hello dancers,

I don't suppose there is anyone still paying attention to this group. I've been going through the articles needing rewrite backlog, and I'm trying to finish the history section of Modern western square dance that someone outlined but never finished many years ago. I would appreciate if anyone could help, maybe point me to good sources.

Thanks, Oiyarbepsy (talk) 06:50, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Help with Article on Dancer / Researcher Elizabeth WaterhouseEdit

I am working since a while on this article about Draft :Elizabeth Waterhouse , and I am having trouble with this. Then I found the WikiProject Dance, and I wanted to reach out to you and ask if you could help. Thank you. See Draft talk:Elizabeth Waterhouse for details and current status. Harald Geisler (talk) 17:05, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

@Harald Geisler: - I found & added book she authored "2022 — Processing Choreography: Thinking with William Forsythe's Duo" with cit. Do not know if that's enough for better notability. Also I used the Cite template as I'm not very good at references. JoeNMLC (talk) 19:29, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Free high-quality sourcesEdit

Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library offers free access to reference books such as The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Theater to editors who have made more than 500 edits (ever) and meet the other basic qualifications. Login to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/ and look for the "Oxford Handbooks" option. There are thousands of other paywalled sources available. Performing arts and dance in New ZealandEdit

There is a current project running in New Zealand funded by the Wikimedia Foundation to increase content on Performing Arts in Aotearoa / New Zealand. Any editors from outside of New Zealand are also invited to participate. For more information this is the project page: [1] and this is the grant application: [2]

It is a focus of the project to ensure content of women and Indigenous Peoples theatre practioners to address the balance in Wikipedia. There are many suggested articles for creation or improvement and resources available on-line. Please feel free to contact me on my talk page for more information.

Matthew BourneEdit

Clearly notable person, awful article. Unsourced and promotional, probably since its creation years ago. Anyone who has the time and inclination to improve this is welcome to have at it. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:40, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Ice dancingEdit

Is ice dancing, a species of figure skating, considered "dancing" for purposed of dance categorization? I'm inclined to revert this edit, but thought I'd check first. TJRC (talk) 22:44, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Popular pagesEdit

Today I added a wikilink to "Popular pages" at WP Dance / Assessment. This is a monthly bot-generated list of pageviews, useful for focused cleanup of frequently viewed articles. JoeNMLC (talk) 15:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Cleanup listingEdit

At Dance - Assessment; under the "Dance articles by quality and importance" table, I added template for Dance "Cleanup listing". It's generated weekly (usually Tuesday) by CleanupWorklistBot & is helpful to find articles with specific issues. JoeNMLC (talk) 15:56, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

JigEdit

There's a problem with this article: the title is not defined in the lead section, which uses a different term. I'm not familiar with the issues at stake, so I wanted to bring it to this WikiProject's attention so it can be fixed. Thanks! --Albany NY (talk) 04:44, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Capitalisation of dance namesEdit

It seems clear from MOS:DANCECAPS that dance names are to be lowercased, but I want to double check before moving pages. There are a lot of dances at uppercase titles and that are uppercased in article text. (e.g. all of the ones in Template:Dance in India, some of Category:Dances of Japan, and the non-English words in List of Indonesian dances.) If you care please discuss this here. —  AjaxSmack  16:25, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sourcesEdit

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
