OBE/CBE edit

The original gazette announcement - which is what gives the award its legal substance records him as OBE. However, the two obits, his service record, and the gazette announcement of his departure from the RAF all state CBE. However, I'm inclined to go with OBE since by my understanding of the statutes of the Order, an air force officer would normally have to be of the rank of Group Captain (or Colonel in this period) to be eligible for a CBE. It is however possible that he was promoted to CBE at some point, and the gazette search isn't turning it up for some reason. I've tried to address the conflicting sources in the article. Found it! in the Edinburgh Gazette, although it should be a copy of the London Gazette I couldnt find it in the London edition. MilborneOne (talk) 16:09, 14 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Good spot, bit of a weird one that. I rather suspect that will I found relates to his father, but obviously can't absolutely prove that. On looking over the service record again, it looks like they just missed out the OBE altogether. Just realised there seemed to be a page number given for the CBE. Gordon Bennett 1910 edit

The article states that Ogilvie was "unsuccessful" in the 1910 Gordon Bennett event, but he was actually awarded the R.Ae.C.'s silver medal for coming third in the Gordon Bennett Aviation Cup. I haven't got access to the Times article cited; could somebody who does have access please check this - perhaps the journalist considered third place 'unsuccessful', but the R.Ae.C. took a different view. Thanks. --TraceyR (talk) 10:19, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Without looking I think he entered more than one Gordon Bennett event. MilborneOne (talk) 11:09, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've seen that Grahame-White, who came first in the same competition (staged in Belmont Park, New York), was awarded the R.Ae.C.'s Gold medal. Since only 4 of the 7 starters completed the course, simply finishing was an achievement! --TraceyR (talk) 12:40, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
