Is Portuguese not an ethnic group?

According to our own article here on Wiki (Portuguese people) Portuguese are an ethnic group native to Portugal. Thus, the name of this article should be changed. Also I've never heard of the term "Afro-Portuguese" used in any scholarly writings. The article should definitely be moved to a better name.

What do you propose (the term Negros Portugueses, by the way, is used in academic sources)? And why do you believe the article is POV? The Ogre (talk) 19:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

That's my point. The term "Afro-Protuguese" is not used and is made up by whoever started this article. The title is someone's POV so that's why I put the tag there.

It's also a nationality, which is obviously the intended sense here. — LlywelynII 06:39, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Article is missing the times when African Powers Held Sway over Portugal

There were two times in recorded history when Portugal was also under African control. The later time was under the Moors and the control came from North Africa. But there was an earlier time when Portugal was under control of an empire based in Mali. So African DNA in Portugal is not just from the Portuguese colonial period. Keep in mind that Portugal is actually very close to North Africa, as is Spain. The straight of Gibralter puts Africa and Spain very close together. Bias

The article shows a strange bias, since like its well known all the Portuguese language originated emmigrants can become Portuguese citizens after only five years of residence. The article needs definetely better sources.85.244.178.6 (talk) 17:57, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

It was... welll... I tried to clean it up. However the figure: about 150,000 (about 1.4% of Portugal's population) seems to be just about those who retain African countries nationality and not those that have Portuguese nationality, those who identify as black Portuguese who need better cover and it is a more interesting subject that the article should mostly address. I doubt there is a reliable source for this, but it was worth to check it out. There are many Afro-Portuguese outside Lisbon region who live in very different reality than those in Lisbon, which was oviously the source of the racialist view that the article had, for instance, here in Porto region, but also in the Algarve, as such the article needs focus on that population too, and this article is alien to that as there are no black areas, unlike Lisbon, they are dispersed within the population.
