How much is enough edit

How many top scorers and highest attendances should be in this article? A top ten of both perhaps? --Squilibob 14:43, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Top ten should be enough - we are now getting into enough games played that there won't be a huge number of people tied on a single position in the list. May be an idea to keep some of the names outside the top ten in the list, and keep the figures up to date, but comment them out, so when names enter or exit the list it is easy to update. -- Chuq 00:24, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Does anyone have a list of top 15 or 20 scorers so we can update the table? -- Batobatobato 07:40, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Penalty shootout wins edit

It's a FIFA convention in official records to count a match that goes to a penalty shootout as a draw for both teams... should we use it here in the all time finals table? – AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 01:27, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't see why not. I think the stats should be in accordance with FIFA conventions. Batobatobato 11:05, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Highest-scoring rounds? edit

Wanderer 01:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm interested in there being a section on the rounds with the highest scores. For instance, Round 10 set this season's record with 18 goals scored, eclipsing 15 in round 8. I suspect that 18 might be a league record number of goals scored in a round.

I mention this as some people measure the 'entertainment value' of a league by the goals scored - comparing it with say the EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga etc.

All Time Ladder edit

The seven founding teams that are still active have all played 64 matches (by adding up Wins, Losses, and Draws) according to that table. There are only 21 rounds per season, meaning that each time can have only played 63 matches. Is this table just slightly out-of-date and including pre-season matches, or has someone added a round twice?Morstar (talk) 04:28, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Seeing as the all time season ladder shows only regualar season games, and finals matches table only does the finals, would anyone be interested in one that shows total, including pre-season, season and post-season matches? As time goes on it could be interesting as the all time ladder may show one team on top, but overall that team may lose a lot in pre-season and finals, as is the case at the moment with Adelaide United. Anyone think this would be a worthy implementation?

And just as a sidenote, I noticed that Adelaide already use a similar thing when referring to their records against other clubs and per stadium etc. Chalkstar2188 (talk) 13:49, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

New All-time ladder edit

Since I never got a response to my query earlier about having a ladder which combines regular season games and finals games, as it may be interesting to note such trends which cause some statistics to change, such as Adelaide United having a very good season record (best in league), but a terrible finals record (worst of teams who have played finals), and thus their overall record puts them close to level pegging with the likes of Sydney and Melbourne. I have gone ahead and created such as table which is combining the regular season matches with the post-season finals matches. I have based it off the similar one Adelaide uses to measure their sucess against other clubs and at venues. Any comments or critique? Chalkstar2188 (talk) 14:41, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Team and season record changes edit

I'm going to suggest a reasonably major overhaul of these sections. Firstly, I think only the record holder of each category needs to be displayed. For example: Longest undefeated streak should only display Melbourne's 10 undefeated matches, not the nines and the eights. The exception of course would be when there is a joint record, such as Most points in a season to miss finals. I am basing this on the Premier League records system. This has also brought to my attention the fact that the records will be different now that the seasons are 27 rounds long, so I suggest having records for both the 21 and 27 round seasons (the Premier League records also use this as they now have 38 match seasons instead of 42). I can do this myself, I just wanted to see if there were any objects or any other thoughts. Thanks, timsdad (talk) 13:20, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Errors edit

The references that we are using for several of the records, in particular the goals and appearances records, have some errors in them. For example, as of the end of Round 26 (2012-13 season), John Hutchinson has 173 appearances (as noted [here], yet our [reference] lists him at 174, due to an [error] where he is listed as entering a game twice (the CCM vs Perth game). I've kept it at 174 since this is what the reference says, despite it being wrong.

There are other problems, such as [incorrect goal counts] (the Sydney FC vs Newcastle game is listed as 2-1 despite it showing 3 Sydney goals). Should we correct such mistakes in the article, or should we leave it as it is in the reference? Preferably, we could find a more accurate reference, although I'm not sure where. There doesn't seem to be any online match reports of the early seasons since the official A-league changed their website a couple of years ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gazzawhite (talkcontribs) 22:48, 29 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think the errors should be fixed. I've also noticed a few small mistakes on that site in other tables and they also had a different way of calculating some of their goal and card tallies (either they were innacurate or included/excluded finals games when they should or shouldn't have been. Other than that, it's still a helpful source, but it would definitely be good to find a few more to back this one up. O for Awesome (talk) 03:46, 30 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Surely there's a better way edit

The article was changed today to say that Melbourne City has played in a final. That's just wrong, and we all know it. I know the club's name has changed, but it really seems like a rewrite of history, removing forever the fact that Melbourne Heart played in a final before City had anything to do with it. Like something out of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. So, see the article title. HiLo48 (talk) 10:32, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think it's fine. The notes section at the bottom of the page explains the change (and is linked to the table). Melbourne Heart is Melbourne City so I'm not sure how misleading this is... Do you have the same issue with Brisbane and Queensland Roar? I guess if anything the year of the change could be added to the note. Macosal (talk) 11:41, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
It's not that simple. When Heart played in a final, the current City ownership had nothing to do with the club. The (admittedly limited) success of Heart is being wrongly attributed to a Johnny-come-lately. Notes in other places in the article don't change that. There has to be a better way. HiLo48 (talk) 11:51, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Do you have something in mind? It isn't uncommon for clubs to change ownership (or name, for that matter), and I don't think it's seen as "taking credit" (or particularly "misleading"). What are your thoughts on Brisbane/Queensland Roar? The club have different owners now than they used to when they were called Queensland... Macosal (talk) 12:01, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I'm from Melbourne. I'm allowed to be parochially ignorant. Brisbane who? HiLo48 (talk) 21:30, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for the 2018-2019 Central Coast most home losses mistake. That was 8 losses. Though I would like to add this link as it shows their "most losses in a season" and "fewest away wins" as well as the "highest-scoring" and "biggest away win" (central coast playing at home in that game). The game for highest-scoring and biggest away win was the central coast game against phoenix on the 9th of March 2019. This is in the link provided under results.

Moreover, I would like to add the 2015-2016 link for most home losses for central coast

I would also like to add the 2019-2020 season for central coast as it provides somewhat of a source to their "most consecutive losses" of 11. This equalled New Zealand Knight's record of 11 as well.
