Look of tables

edit

This page still looks a little wide. What about the following tweaks:

  • using the flag-nation templates e.g. {{CHN}}, that produces:   China
  • fixing all the table widths (to something like 95% of screen)
  • replacing background medal colours with a column and medal icon (the coloured tables are a bit overwhelming and the make it difficult to read some red-linked names and see flag colours. The medal icon seems to be a standard and neat solution)?

Example, before:

Men's 300 m Rifle Three Positions Teams
1   Rajmond Debevec, Slovenia 1168 1   Czech Republic 3511
2   Eric Uptagrafft, United States 1165 2   United States 3499
3   Thomas Jerabek, Czech Republic 1163 3   Norway 3491

Example, After:

Pos Individual Team
Men's 300 m Rifle Three Positions
Rajmond Debevec   Slovenia 1168   Czech Republic 3511
Eric Uptagrafft   United States 1165   United States 3499
Thomas Jerabek   Czech Republic 1163   Norway 3491

The new format would make it easy to combine the events into one table too. --Deon Steyn 08:13, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indeed this looks like a pretty good solution, and as such it should be applied to 1947 ISSF World Shooting Championships and 2006 ISSF World Shooting Championships as well (those are the only ones around so far, but I'm planning on adding at least all large championships between them). By the way, I am quite happy that someone is willing to address these issues on the ISSF articles, considering that I seem to have been pretty much the only one to care about them up to now and that I'm not all that much of a layout buff. Perhaps you could find some similar improvements to the "Shooting at the XXXX Summer Olympics" articles as well? -- Jao 09:39, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Cool, I will convert it and we can see what it look like -- Deon Steyn 10:01, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Done... doesn't look to bad, the table is a bit broad, but rather that than the page being too long. If you guys are happy with it, I can try and do the 2006 and 1947 ones too. -- Deon Steyn 12:46, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
