Title edit
This article needs to be re-named, as it doesn't match any of the other articles on Japanese Naval artillery. The proper designation should be in centimeters, not millimeters. All of the other Japanese naval artillery articles are written this way:
- 41 cm/45 3rd Year Type naval gun,
- 20 cm/50 3rd Year Type naval gun,
- 15.5 cm/60 3rd Year Type naval gun,
- 12.7 cm/50 Type 3 naval gun
- 14 cm/40 11th Year Type naval gun
Those are the actual article titles. It doesn't make sense to list that the Japanese would have for some reason decided to designate this one gun in millimeters, unlike every other gun in service. This gun should be called "12 cm/45 3rd Year Type". A person doing a search for Japanese naval guns is likely to be searching for a "12 cm" gun, not a "120mm" gun. I know, because that is exactly what happened to me ten minutes ago. You will also note where most of those titles say "3rd Year Type", not "Type 3". "Third Year Type" designates these guns as using a Welin breech block, as opposed to the gun designated "11th Year Type", which designates it as a gun using a horizontal-sliding breech block. People say "Type 3" (as they did for the 12.7 cm gun), but I'm pretty sure that is wrong and is only because people think that all Japanese equipment is called the "Type *blank*", and because it's easier to say.
I do find a lot of land-based Japanese Navy guns denoted in millimeters, which I have my doubts about, but I know that all the ship-based guns that I've found are in centimeters..45Colt 21:23, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
