Rubina Dilaik

Rubina Dilaik (born 26 August 1987) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi television along with Hindi films.[1] She made her acting debut in 2008 playing Radhika Shastri in Zee TV's popular show Chotti Bahu. Dilaik is best known for her portrayal of a transgender Soumya Harman Singh in Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki for which she earned Indian Television Academy Awards for Best Actress.[2] In 2020, she participated in Colors TV's Bigg Boss 14 where she became the winner and Stunt-based reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 where she became 4th runner up. Her other notable works include portraying Divya Jakhotia in Punar Vivah - Ek Nayi Umeed and Jeannie in Jeannie Aur Juju. Dilaik made her Hindi film debut with Palash Muchhal's Ardh in 2022.[6] She is currently seen as a contestant in Colors TV's dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10.[7]

Early life and workEdit

Dilaik was born on 26 August 1987 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.[citation needed] She studied at Shimla Public School and St. Bede's College, Shimla. Her father is also a writer and has written many books in Hindi.[8]

In her early days, she was a beauty pageant contender for which she won two local beauty pageants and was crowned Miss Shimla in 2006. She was a national-level champion in debate during her school days. She is a graduate with a degree in English Literature with minors in Political science. In 2008, she won the Miss North India Pageant held at Chandigarh.[9]

CareerEdit

2008–2013: Acting debut and breakthroughEdit

She started her acting career from Chotti Bahu though she wanted to be an IAS and was preparing but got selected in auditions was held in Chandigarh.[10] Dilaik gained recognition by playing Radhika Shastri in Zee TV's Chotti Bahu opposite Avinash Sachdev and reprising the role in the show's sequel.[11] In 2012, she played Simran "Smiley" Gill in Sony TV's Saas Bina Sasural.

In 2013, she played Divya Jakhotia in Zee TV's Punar Vivah - Ek Nayi Umeed opposite Karan Grover.[12][13]

2013–present: Television comeback and Bigg Boss 14Edit

From 2013 to 2014, she portrayed Sita in Life OK's mythological show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev and Jeannie in SAB TV's Jeannie Aur Juju.[14]

From 2016 to 2020, Dilaik portrayed Soumya Singh, a transgender woman in Colors TV's Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki opposite Vivian Dsena,[15] for which she was awarded for Best Personality in Colors' Golden Petal Awards 2017 and Best Actress in ITA Awards 2017. In March 2021, she returned to the series.

In October 2020, Dilaik entered as a contestant in the fourteenth season of Bigg Boss, the Indian version of reality TV show Big Brother.[16] She took part in the house along with her husband Abhinav Shukla.[17] She stayed in the house for twenty weeks and emerged as the winner.[18][19]

In 2022, Dilaik participated in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12.[20] In August 2022, it was confirmed that Dilaik is participating in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10.[21][22]

Bollywood debutEdit

Bigg Boss 14 winner Rubina Dilaik is all set to make her Bollywood debut with the Hindi movie Ardh. The project marks the directorial debut of music composer-singer Palaash Muchhal. The movie also features Hiten Tejwani and actor Rajpal Yadav. Filming of the movie Ardh started from September 2021 and will be release on 2022. Rubina defeated 50 girls in look-test for the film. Palash in an interview said that her character of Radhika in Chhoti Bahu tilted the scales in her favor, beating no less than 50 others who aspired for the same. According to the sources, the film "Ardh" is going to release digitally on the Zee5 on 10 June 2022.

Dilaik married actor Abhinav Shukla on 21 June 2018.[4]

In 2016, Dilaik was ranked eleventh in the 50 Sexiest Asian Women List by Eastern Eye.[23] She moved up a place to the tenth spot in the same list in 2017.[24][25]

Dilaik was ranked at No. 10 in The Times Most Desirable Women on TV 2020.[26]
