Status report from the Portals WikiProject

edit

Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018.

Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, and design the portals of the future.

As of April 29th, membership is at 56 editors, and growing.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for each component of portals.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.

Parser error

edit

@Dreamy Jazz: The portal page is showing "{{Calendar/Sun1stMonthStartError: Invalid time." It looks like that is due to the {{calendar}} at the top of Portal:1990s/Selected anniversaries/June. Can you fix that? Johnuniq (talk) 03:37, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I will have a look to see what I can do. Thanks for alerting me Dreamy Jazz (talk) 07:29, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Seems to be because there are no annevesaries for June but a page has been created for it unlike for may and march. I will see what I can do. Dreamy Jazz (talk) 07:37, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Done a temporary fix, will look into it further later Dreamy Jazz (talk) 08:09, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think that this portal uses each day as a differently selected anniversary at the moment. That, however, could be changed to be only for each month. At the moment I have left it for each day. Dreamy Jazz (talk) 15:30, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Portal updates

edit

@Northamerica1000: The edits you made to this portal last year look similar to your good changes to 1920s etc. but are marked with {{construction}}. Are they ready to reinstate (and add lists etc.) or should we leave this portal in its old state? Certes (talk) 10:38, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Certes: I have restored the portal improvements. See the diff, which provides my detailed rationale for the restoration. North America1000 10:43, 15 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Articles

edit

The following articles are presently being displayed in the portal using transclusion from articles. Consensus at VPP has approved using transclusion templates in portals, which provides users with up-to-date content that is verbatim to that in articles. Notelist

@ActivelyDisinterested: Thank you for fixing a cite error. Can you remember what note was visible? I'm trying to track down the cause, to prevent similar errors from appearing in other portals. Certes (talk) 12:05, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Certes. It was due to the selected biography section, the Bill Clinton article (which was showing) has a note in regard to his name. Hope that helps. ActivelyDisinterested (talk) 12:09, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that's very helpful. We've already identified other templates which produce useful text but optionally add a footnote; in Clinton's case it's {{Birth name}}. I'll see if we can suppress it in the module. Certes (talk) 12:14, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Fixed; both Template:Birth name and Module:Excerpt/portals required changes. Certes (talk) 12:34, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
