Bangladesh Premier League (football)

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the top tier of the country's football leagues. It is run directly by the Professional Football League Committee of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). Dhaka Derby is one of the most popular matches in the league.[1] The league is the successor of National Football Championship running from 2000[2]-2006.[3][4]

HistoryEdit

Founded in 2007, the league was previously known as the B League. The league was renamed to Bangladesh League in 2009[5] Then in 2012, it was renamed to Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).[6] The start of BPL marked the start of professional league and a wide open national league.

2013–14 Nitol-Tata Nitol-Tata Group sponsored of the Bangladesh Premier League after 35 matches into the ongoing league. [3][17]
2014–15 Manyavar Besides Manyavar; KFC, Pragati Insurance, Amber Group and Treasurer had joined the country's professional football league as co-sponsors. [18][19][20]
2015–16 JB Group JB group had bought the title rights for Tk 4 crores. [21][22][23][24]
2016–18 Saif Power Battery Saif Power Battery bought the title rights this for Tk 1.5 crores. [21]
2018-2019 TVS BFF ink a one year deal with TVS after finishing first leg of season. [25][26][27][28]

Media CoverageEdit

132 matched of season 2015-2016 was broadcast live at BTV World and Boishakhi TV, also live commentary was produced by Radio Next FM[29]. Every match of this league has been streaming live on BFF's page of Mycujoo platform from 2018-19 season. Bangla TV start broadcasting selected matches of the BPL 2018-19 matches live from May 9, 2019[26].
