Q 51.01

Who connects (a) an airport in Chhattisgarh, (b) a bridge in Ahmedabad, (c) a metro station in Bengaluru and (d) a street in Chicago. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 08:55, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Swami Vivekananda - Raipur Airport, SV Road metro station and street in Chicago... I guess adding Chicago was a give-away... VasuVR (talk, contribs) 10:39, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Go Ahead, VasuVR, complete it. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 17:42, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Since there is a bridge with his name, I did not "explicitly" include it in my answer (being too obvious)... The other 2 were not readily clear - SV Road and Raipur Airport. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 11:14, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
VasuVR has grabbed 0.75 point so far. The bridge is one of the oldest in Ahmedabad. Let's see who cracks it? --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 04:08, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh Come on! Ellis Bridge... VasuVR (talk, contribs) 05:26, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
The first Q is the tribute to Swami Vivekananda. Over to VasuVR. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 06:22, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.02

Connect Adisesha (A), a place in Andhra Pradesh (B), a current Carnatic composer-violinist (C), one chakra of 6 Melakarta ragas (D) and the Big dipper (E). VasuVR (talk, contribs) 11:40, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Hint 1 - the person in C is Kumari A Kanyakumari. A, B and C are tightly connected, while the rest are loosely connected (and we can add more to connect in the loose connections)... VasuVR (talk, contribs) 02:12, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
(B) = Thirumala, (D) = Rishi, (E) = Saptarishi --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 04:18, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
On the right track... please give the connection and in case of A, B and C, and how it connects with D & E. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 05:28, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Hint 2 - couple of more connections - an aspect of any calendar (F) and some stellar objects in our solar system (G). VasuVR (talk, contribs) 10:15, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Please enlighten with more clues setting the approach --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 06:31, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Hint 3 - a bit of a giveaway (in my view), is that the answers may be in the articles related to A, B and C - within Wikipedia itself. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 08:24, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Adisesha - shown as five-headed or seven-headed
Thirumala - Surrounding the hills are seven peaks of Seshachalam range. The seven peaks supposedly represent the seven heads of Adisesha.
    A. Kanyakumari - She recently has composed 7 ragas bearing the names of the 7 hills of Thirumala.
Rishi - meaning sage is the seventh chakra representing the seven sages.
Big dipper - Saptarishi meaning "seven sages" - Ninney (talk) 18:35, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
You have got it... Please go ahead and finish up F & G, though you get full points for finding the full connect. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 06:43, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
  • First of all, User:Sureshpurohit gets the full point for finding the clues, I just made the connections so no points for me.
Secondly, F & G are provided as hint so they should not be treated as a quiz query, I might be wrong in my understanding, I dont know much about the rules.
F - An aspect of any calendar - might be the 7 days of a week.
G - Their is only 1 stellar object in the solar system (i.e. our sun). The celestial objects - might be the 7 objects we consider, viz., Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn & the days of a calendar are named after them probably might be the connection.
    Nice question, User:VasuVR. - Ninney (talk) 10:57, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
I am not sure about the answers and connections. With the facts above with answers (especially response to Hint 2), I decided that the points to be awarded to you, Ninney. In my view, the overall connect is 7. In the context of A, B & C - it is tighter coupling you have clearly listed. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 13:13, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Ninney and VasuVR, I have posted my views on considering questions asked in clues and awarding part of points to who take significant leads and cracks partially in [Talk]. Others can also respond. Ninney, you go ahead and post next question. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 03:53, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
No more discussions on these question, SuHit gets full points & to proceed further. I am updating the scores. Anyways, I am out of town (Mumbai) this weekend & unable to access internet. Thanks my friends, Vasu VR & Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) - Ninney (talk) 16:07, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.05

Counting the personalities by some logic, there are only two in India, as of now. The number can reach to three in May-June 2014. Person A = Born in 1933, married and have 4 sons & 2 daughters; Person B = Born in 1924, never married and have one adopted daughter. What's the logic and identify two personalities? --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 13:01, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

I hope the logic and personalities what you intend match with my opinion.
A: H. D. Deve Gowda (born 1933) 5 sons and 2 daughters.
B: Atal Bihari Vajpayee (born 1924) and adopted a 1 daughter.
Logic is; As of 2014 both are the only two living former Indian Prime Ministers who stayed in the Prime Minister's office. :)--Omer123hussain (talk) 15:33, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Savitri Khanolkar & Param Vir Chakra ? - Prasad (talk) 06:16, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Savitri Bai choosed the motif of Dadhichi-who sacrified his life in the fight of good over evil, by donating his body, his thighbone was used to create vajra to kill Vrutrasur, armed with vajra Indra slew Vrutrasur. Q 51.09

Most intriguing question Omer, thanks. To keep the ball rolling;

Till recently, the Indian budget was always read out at 5:30 PM - a tradition broken by ______. What is the reason for this odd timing & who broke the tradition? Prasad (talk) 16:31, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Yashwant Sinha the then FM of India presented the 2001 Union budget of India at 11:00 am.
  • The first Indian Budget during British rule was presented James Wilson on 7th April, 1860.
  • The tradition of presenting the budget at 5:00/ 5:30 PM was set by Sir Basil Blackett in 1924. According to him, this was done to give some relief to officials who worked all night to present a financial statement. And it use to be noon in UK, Thus the budget being simultaneously presented around noon in the U.K. Parliament in London and in India in the evening.
  • In Independent India the first FM R. K. Shanmukham Chetty presented the first Budget at 5 pm on 26th November, 1947.
  • The first Budget of the Republic of India was presented by John Mathai on February 28, 1950 at 5:00 PM. Hope its correct. Regards :)--Omer123hussain (talk) 18:37, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
Righto, Omer ! You gave full history here. The word "Budget" is derived from the French word for a leather bag used to carry papers, as the Chancellor of the Exchequer of England would generally carry his papers in such a bag. Over to you, again ! - Prasad (talk) 00:54, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Mythology time !!

What is the original name of the asura, who was cut into half (or two) as Rahu & Ketu by Mohini (Vishnu-Maya)? :-) Prasad (talk) 13:58, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Original name was Rahu itself.
Rahu was the son of Danava (Sanskrit for demon) Vipracitti by his wife Simhika.
According to Vedic legend, during the Samudra manthan, the asura Rahu drank some of the divine nectar. But before the nectar could pass his throat, Mohini cut off his head. Thus Rahu and Ketu are two parts of the same danava (Asura Rahu). Hope the answer is correct as per what you question. :)Regards ----Omer123hussain (talk) 19:50, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, but according to my sources he has another name, What you have described is correct, but Mythology has many interpretations & many more books. The answer i am looking for is easily googlable & also has a page on Wikipedia itself. ! :-)) Prasad (talk) 00:36, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.20

Person A sang a specific song regularly in an annual event. A sang the same song at another event that was the culmination of activities done by the organizers of that annual event (other people were active for the same goal as well). A performed (not the same song) for a non-Indian well-known politician, and that politician was not in good terms with the then Indian government. Who is A?--Dwaipayan (talk) 02:27, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Kishore Kumar? :-) Prasad (talk) 04:09, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
He he :) No.
Clue 1. The organizers of those annual events are still active, although, as an organization, they do not have the same goal for their activities now.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:34, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Clue 2. The organization is a political one.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:03, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
By any chance, Rabindranath Tagore? He sang Vande Mataram at the 1896 session of Indian National Congress and later Janagana Mana in 1911, which has a conspiracy theory that it is in favor of King George V? :- Prasad (talk) 07:43, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
No. not Tagore. You are very near the answer though.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:19, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Omkarnath Thakur --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 04:11, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that is correct. Omkarnath Thakur sang Vande Mataram in Indian National Congress Annual conferences. He sang it also during the festivities of the first independence day in 1947, including in All India Radio on 15 august morning, and also in the parliament assembly on the night of 14 August.
Apparently, he performed for Benito Mussolini. According to some source, that performance was therapeutic for Mussolini's insomnia or some other ailment!--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:22, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
Very well researched one. Regards :)--Omer123hussain (talk) 19:11, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
I will not be able to post a Q, request some one to do it. As a part of custom, I will restrain from answering that Q. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 08:54, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

That was a very good question by Dwaipayanc and a very good answer by Su_hit. To keep the ball rolling, here is the next question, a little bit offbeat.

Q 51.22

No points to me for Q21, otherwise it will set wrong trends.

Crack the series: 1955 + US; 1956 + US; 1967 + India. The list has only three members. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 04:50, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.23

Time for new-interesting Q. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 07:21, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

X is a name of an island in Indian Ocean. X is also the name of a snake native to South Asia. A similar sounding Y is used in a traditional Spanish sport. What is X? Goutham787 (talk) 09:15, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
Cobrador island ? :- Prasad (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
No. The names of island and of snake are same. Also, is there any corresponding Y? Hint: Island is in Bay of Bengal. That island has some interesting statistic related to population. Goutham787 (talk) 17:29, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Could be Viper Island? and Viper family of Snakes? Could not get Y/Spanish connection though? May be Trenton Viper tennis games? :- Prasad (talk) 09:15, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
No. Almost there! Goutham787 (talk) 16:07, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
OK, i think i got it! Is it is Trinket Island and Trinket snakes? but again the Spanish connection..?:-) Prasad (talk) 16:57, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

After a good night's sleep, i think, got the spanish connection also, is it the Valencian_trinquet ? : -)) Prasad (talk) 05:51, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Yes. X is Trinket and Y is Trinquet. Trinket Island has a population of just 2 persons who returned after the devastating 2004 Tsunami. Your turn now Prasad! Goutham787 (talk) 07:32, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
Indeed new and interesting. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 09:16, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.24

Thank you Goutham! That was an interesting question.

A is a Nobel Laureate of Non-English language, he wrote an English poem, which is his lone English language poem, and dedicated it to his friend B, a celebrated English author from India. Identify A & B. :-) Prasad (talk) 13:57, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

A = Czesław Miłosz, B = Raja Rao, Milosz's only English poem = To Raja Rao. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 17:29, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
Y Su_hit ! Finish the round with an exciting question. :-) Prasad (talk) 00:49, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

Q 51.25

I may not be able to post a question instantly. If any enthusiastic is interested to post a new Q, he/she is most welcome. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 05:21, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

'A' has good corelation with the event 'B' scheduled in India in Apr-May 2014. The term 'A' is derived from term 'C'. Term 'C' is often used for Moon and for product/service offered by Kinetic. Identify A, B and C. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 05:13, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Lunar Eclipse, Kinetic "Chal meri" Luna ? :-) Prasad (talk) 06:01, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Prasad, please post explicitly what is A, B and C? --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 06:26, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
'A' = The principal modern English adjective pertaining to the Moon is lunar, derived from the Latin Luna., 'B' = Next eclipse visible in Mumbai – 15 Apr 2014 Total Lunar Eclipse & 'C' = Kinetic Luna ? :-) Prasad (talk) 06:44, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
You are close, but it is not complete, what I am looking for. The event 'B' is a national event, would be spread over Apr-May 2014. 'A' is used in event 'B' and such many events conducted in past. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 07:14, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Remote thought...could be Phases of Indian General Elections 2014, spread over April-May 2014, which will be done in several phases. Phases can be related to Moon/Luna..??? :-) Prasad (talk) 09:47, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Remote thought works, Prasad. :-) What is 'A'? 'A' is a material. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 10:21, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Could be Indelible Ink, which contains Silver Nitrate, once called Lunar Caustic? :-) Prasad (talk) 10:36, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Y Ladies and gentlemen of WIPQ, with this answer Prasad has won this round. Applaud.. A = Lunar Caustic (Silver nitrate, indelible ink), B = Elections, C = Luna. --Suresh Purohit (Su_hit) (talk) 05:32, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
