Meetup? edit

I know it is too early to talk about it now, as school has just started for most of us. Is anyone interested in a March holiday meetup? Suggestions please? Thank you. --Terence Ong Talk 10:36, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Angela's thinking... edit

Angela...she said this...

[18:42] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> Greetings, Angela
[18:42] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> I'm Wikipedia user Tdxiang
[18:42] <Angela> hello
[18:42] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> now you see, there's going to be a meetup in Singapore
[18:43] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> Jimmy Wales happensto be coming
[18:43] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> It's in July 20-21
[18:43] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> That's what he said
[18:43] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> We SGPedians would like to know if you're interested
[18:44] <Angela> I'd love to be there, but I don't know how I'd pay for it
[18:44] <Angela> sorry, I have to go now. Maybe we can chat about it later?
[18:44] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> sure
[18:44] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> btw i'm User:tdxiang on Wikipedia
[18:45] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> Thanks!

Hi. I don't think I could come to Singapore in July, but it's possible I will be there in mid-June. This is very tentative for now, but I should know more in a week, so perhaps having an earlier meetup before the July one would be possible? Angela. 11:57, 15 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Finally confirmed - I will be at a conference in Singapore 21-22 June. The conference ends at 6pm on the 22nd, so perhaps a meetup could be held that evening? Angela. 01:43, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure yet as its a long way to go. I will confirm it on May 25 again. Evening should be ok. --Terence Ong 04:20, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
The 23rd would be better since I don't know whether I'm expected to do anything the evening of the 22nd when the conference ends. I have all day Friday free and leave that night, so something in the afternoon would be ideal. Angela. 19:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey! A meetup! edit

Well I missed the Seattle Meetup. Shouldn't have. I got a bit too pissed. So you guys are having one (or two) in July? Well I might be going on a trip during summer break to China as part of a proselytic mission and a pilgrimage to all the various war museums, memorials and battle sites :) I'll see if I'm going and then if I can squeeze some time to come to Singapore for the Meetup, and to liberate my cache of savings, books, paraphenalia and video games :D That is, if Führer Lee isn't gonna lock me up for skipping NS. I don't want to spend 3 years in jail just to attend a Wiki Meetup. :p Got any good lawyer here willing to defend me if I do go to the Meetup? :D Yeah and money might be a problem. Donations? :D

-- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 10:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's three years plus you still have to do your NS term, I believe :P Try to come down for it though. NSLE (T+C) at 01:04 UTC (2006-02-24)
Got a lawyer or not... Don't wanna take chances you know... :D -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 23:24, 24 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
After three years, isn't it considered as NS ( +reservist ) served? I'm quite sure this is the case for Jehovah's Witnesses, and have always assumed that it applies to the rest. On the other hand, for awolee and drug-related cases, the Detention period is not included in the 2 years liability, i think? We need clarification about this for National Service in Singapore article. --Vsion 02:18, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm a conscientious (and cowardly :D) objector. I'm not going to the army... ever. Even got a letter from West Point, but no, I'm not joining the army. I'm gonna have to renounce my legal status in SG I guess. But then I won't be able to get a visa. :x -- Миборовский U|T|C|M|E|Chugoku Banzai! 16:39, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposed itinerary edit

I propose that we bring Jimbo and Angela to the following places if time permits:

  1. Pulau Ubin or Changi Village for food
  2. Macritchie Reservoir
  3. Labrador Park
  4. old Ford motor factory
  5. National Library
  6. Sungei Buloh nature reserve
  7. Bukit Timah nature reserve
  8. Suntec City
  9. Sentosa

Also, we should give them each a welcome gift. Any suggestions? — Kimchi.sg | Talk 13:04, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

My modified itinerary:

Angela

  1. Raffles City
  2. Raffles Hotel
  3. Suntec City
  4. Sentosa
  5. Merlion Park
  6. National Library, Singapore
  7. Orchard Road (shopping)
  8. Mount Faber
  9. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
  10. Toa Payoh or any housing estate
  11. A city tour lol (who has a car?)
  12. Civic District tour

Jimbo

  1. A city tour
  2. Raffles City
  3. Raffles Hotel
  4. Suntec City
  5. Sentosa
  6. Merlion Park
  7. National Library, Singapore
  8. Orchard Road (to buy souveneirs)
  9. Mount Faber
  10. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
  11. Toa Payoh or any housing estate
  12. Old Ford Motor Factory
  13. Civic Distric tour
Endorse your suggestion. It's more "balanced" than mine.
As for the welcome gift... what'd it be? Anyone? If you ask me, I'd resort to something cheap like a fountain pen. We're all on shoestring budgets after all. :-( :-( Kimchi.sg 03:09, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please don't worry about getting a gift for me. It's not necessary. I'll be happy enough if some people show up for the meetup. :) Angela. 13:20, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jimbo might not make it edit

I've just spoken to jimbo, and he says he doesn't have a hard invite for "the July thing". As such he may not make it down here. NSLE (T+C) at 02:12 UTC (2006-04-26)

Where? On IRC? Oh dear. Hope he CAN come...anyway, we know Angela IS coming for sure. :)-- 贡献 Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 09:14, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Planning edit

Very few have selected the time, where to dine, what to do for the meetup. If this is the case, I have nothing to say. Does it mean we are doing last minute planning? --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 16:28, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

NO. Let's do it by 16 June 2006 by 24 UTC.-- 贡献 CCD 維基和平 Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 06:59, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lunch and dinner edit

I asked Angela over IRC and she was not very keen of Indian food, I plan to choose somewhere else. Any suggestions? --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 07:26, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't think dinner should be included, because we don't know what time our "tour" will end.-- 贡献 CCD 維基和平 Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 03:59, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

[12:00] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> hello Angela
[12:00] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> do you mind if we disclude dinner for the meetup?
[12:00] <Angela> hi
[12:00] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> because we don't know what time our "tour" will end
[12:01] <Angela> that's fine
[12:01] <Tan_Ding_Xiang> okay
So we should disclude dinner...okay.-- 贡献 CCD Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 04:05, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Listen up! By Tuesday, 20 June 2006, 17.00 SGT, I shall book the tables for lunch. All late applications will be forfeited. That's all I have to say.

-- 贡献 CCD Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 04:10, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, include dinner is for social purposes, don't disclude it. I repeat DON'T DISCLUDE IT. The tour can be finished before dark, so leave dinner, we can't let Angela leave Singapore on an empty stomach. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 05:14, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Then where do we have dinner?-- 贡献 CCD Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 05:19, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

What time will lunch be? kmccoy (talk) 06:18, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lunch is at 1200PM SGT, at The Banana Leaf Apollo, 56 Race Course Road.See Map for location. Thanks.-- 贡献 CCD Chat with Tdxiang on IRC! 10:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Perfect, thanks. See you there. I need to be back at Downtown East (Pasir Ris MRT stop) by 1400, so I should probably leave lunch around 1300.  :) kmccoy (talk) 11:16, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

What does "disclude" mean? There's no such word.

Also, this choice of lunch venue will allow us to tie down our meeting venue more conveniently. I'd propose we meet at Little India station, which is very near The Banana Leaf, at 11.30, giving late-comers a little time. Is that okay with everyone?

As for dinner, I say there is a fair chance we won't be able to finish our tour by evening, so if Angela does not mind not eating with us, it should be fine not to have dinner.

Lastly, how much will the lunch cost, Ding Xiang? Kimchi.sg 12:51, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe around S$20 - 30 per pax, may be cheaper if you don't order expensive items or a lot. I was liked puzzled by the word "disclude", was it coined or something? The sad thing is we won't get to sit on Duck Tours or Hippo Tours as it costs SGD33 due to financial reasons. If Sentosa is too boring, we may go to other places. Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon costs SGD19.50, hope its not too pricey. Sentosa admission fee SGD 2, bus SGD 1, Carlsberg Sky Tower SGD10.90. If this is not a financial problem, everything shall go as planned. Tourism alone can cost a bomb i.e. SGD50, food SGD 30. I believe it can be SGD 20 or 15 even. We may all go broke by the end of the day. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 14:34, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
If it's that expensive, I'm afraid I won't be able to join you guys after lunch. Is it possible to keep the cost for the whole day down to $20 per pax? Kimchi.sg 16:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I realise the meeting place is confirmed already, and I have no objections to it. But how about the meeting time? I propose we meet at 11.15, giving late-comers some time. Kimchi.sg 16:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should we change it to Komala Villa's then? I think it can go down to at least 10/day, if you order the not so expensive stuff. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 03:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have cut the budget down already, only the lunch is slightly pricey, no paid attractions, unless you guys want to enter the museums which is SGD 3. Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 04:01, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
(resetting indent) Please confirm with Ding Xiang if he knows where you want to change it to. We don't want him to book the tables only to find that we've a last-minute change of plans. Kimchi.sg 08:47, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was checking my restaurant guide and it say the prices range from under SGD20/pax to around SGD40/pax, I believe its more on the dishes you order than the item. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 09:04, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK, Ding Xiang announced that he has booked the seats at The Banana Leaf, so I think changing the venue will be moot now. Kimchi.sg 10:23, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

What if it rains? edit

I believe it's the dry season right now. Even so, once in a while there may be a downpour, so it is important for us to have a wet weather plan if it rains. I see we have 3 plans, so why not take 1 of them and convert it into a wet weather plan? (I.e, no outdoor walking, all travelling between destinations by either bus or MRT only, destinations must be sheltered). Kimchi.sg 16:09, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead, its a Wiki, come on, propose a new plan, be bold! I just really pray it will not rain and we will have a nice hot and sunny weather. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 16:21, 17 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is the dry season?! kmccoy (talk) 01:55, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's supposed to be, but it's been raining quite frequently recently. NSLE 01:57, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Today has been quite dry, and the NEA's outlook is... darn, their server seems to be down. But personally I think it will be no different. It has been hot and dry all day for the past 3 days. Kimchi.sg 13:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Where is Little India MRT Station? edit

Is Little India MRT Station near Swissôtel or should I get a cab? Your answer should take into consideration the fact that I can't read maps and get lost very easily. :) Angela. 13:12, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Taking a cab would be good, though you can take the MRT from City Hall to Dhoby Ghaut and change to North East Line to Punggol and stop at Little India MRT Station. --Terence Ong (Chat | Contribs) 13:18, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you need to get there in a hurry, the route by taxi is: flag the taxi at Stamford Road, tell the driver to go straight down Stamford Road, turn right into Prinsep Street, go straight down Selegie Road, then finally, turn left at the junction of Selegie Road and Bukit Timah Road. The station's entrance is not far down Bukit Timah Road. Kimchi.sg 13:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

How will we recognise each other? edit

Question as above. I will be emailing everyone who is on the list and has email, asking for their mobile phone (handphone/cellular phone) numbers. Angela, please email me if you have your mobile phone working in Singapore. In return, I will be announcing my number in the email, not here for privacy reasons. :) Kimchi.sg 13:22, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, there's pics of Angela around on Wiki, and you've met Terence before, and I've met him before, so the only problem would be the others. :P NSLE 13:28, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't have a mobile phone. I'll probably wear a Wikipedia T-shirt so you can spot me easily enough. Angela. 13:45, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
The concourse is where the "passenger service centre" is. It's not near the Bukit Timah Road entrance, so do follow the signs. ^_^ Kimchi.sg 13:50, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have Mailer diablo's handphone number. That still leaves ZhongHan, Kmccoy and Goh wz. Although it's a bit late now, I'll go ahead and email them. Kimchi.sg 13:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Come to think of it, I'll expose my phone number so that the rest of you can keep your hidden. I've emailed my handphone number to everyone not in my handphone's contacts list (Angela, NSLE, Tdxiang, ZhongHan, and Kmccoy). Even if you don't have a mobile phone, you can still call from a public telephone. Kimchi.sg 14:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Guys!

I'm in Singapore since end of 2014. Now we have September 2015 (and nothing happend here in between) - So Wikipedians of Singapore, I wanna do a serious Singapore Wikipedia Meetup, I would like to ask everyone to join this Meetup (website)-group (for free). The main purpose of Meetups is meeting people in person, if you don't live in Singapore, you might wanna find or create your own Meetup-group in your City/Country, currently there are nearly 20 groups available worldwide.

I would like to catch up with the Wikipedia Numbering on the Event number 8, the event is scheduled here: http://www.meetup.com/Singapore-Wikipedia-Meetup/events/225136810/ - I've also created a FB-group for other discussions at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sgwikimeetup/ or use the Twitter Hashtag #WikipediaSG - if you're still using IRC, you can find me 24/7 on: #wikipedia-singapore - if you don't know what it is, I'll recommend you trying a free and anonymous IRC service like IRCCloud.com

Let's build our very own local community, if you have any comments, please let me know! --huggi - never stop exploring (talk) 08:06, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
