Upcoming "420 collaboration"

You are invited to participate in the upcoming "420 collaboration", which is being held from Saturday, April 15 to Sunday, April 30, and especially on April 20, 2017! Bradley, Georgia created

I created Bradley, Georgia as an unincorporated community stub. The Federal Judicial Center indicated Bradley, Georgia as the birth place of a Federal Judge whos article I am working on and the article creation was incident to that. It is an acceptable stub, but could use geo-coordinates and basic infobox info. Thanks. Safiel (talk) 04:02, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

You could also add that the Jones County historian terms it, along with some others, as "quaint" and "small". :) Could you also possibly work some of your new skill at new articles Wayside, Georgia and James, Georgia? Is there any interest in adding Georgia to {{WikiProject United States}}? It seems like a useful template for regional articles that are of interest to many states. I'm working on some botany pages that span gulf states, and I'm hoping to not have to add separate banners for all six states that aren't in the template -Furicorn (talk) 07:58, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

@Semmendinger: I didn't suggest this with the idea to change the project. My idea is the pages with {{WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)}} banner template would eventually get the new banner template with the template variable GA=yes. See this talk page for an example with Rhode Island. Does that make sense? -Furicorn (talk) 21:44, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

@Furicorn: Interesting, that makes sense. Does that happen retroactively with a bot? When I look at this page I know I'm literally the only one working directly on this WikiProject so it would be nice to have a great support network. I've looked around at the other pages, and in general it makes a whole lot of sense to make these into basically task forces for WP:USA, and then keep these WP around as "inactive" after changing the template pages, etc, to the new one to be used. You don't need to send in a bot. First, amend {{WikiProject United States}} to have two new parameters |Georgia= and |Georgia-importance=, plus aliases |GA= and |GA-importance=. Then convert {{WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)}} into a wrapper, see for example {{WikiProject New Hampshire}}. If you really do want a bot to carry out replacement, amend {{WikiProject United States}} but {{WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)}} should be converted more along the lines of {{WikiProject Utah}}. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:19, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

@Redrose64: So basically anyone who still uses the original WP:UTAH template will automatically place the new template which is USA plus the Utah taskforce? Because if that's how it works, sounds awesome. I'm assuming this also just carries over the backlog (which I'm currently working through!), etc to WP:USA. My last question is if the Assessment page on this Wikiproject will still work, or it would have to be edited somewhat. I would still like to be able to see the Article class/importance for Georgia-specific articles, not all USA articles as a whole. SEMMENDINGER (talk) 23:33, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

That answers the first question! What about the assessment page then, I guess the only change would be to edit where the assessment criteria pulls it information from? Also what happens with conflicting article grades (USA scores it a stub, a year later Georgia comes in and scores it a start.) Sorry for the questions. Follow up: AnomieBOT bot did indeed subst it. There shouldn't be a need to alter the importance assessment criteria. As for the class - the scale should be the same for all WikiProjects (there are a few exceptions). --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:26, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

@Redrose64: It's been over a week and no other comments about this have shown up. For this past 9 days there's still basically no activity on this WikiProject, so I think it's safe to merge over and join the Embassy at WP:USA. What are the steps to do this? What is "the Embassy"? But if you mean that Georgia should be merged into the USA template, a recent comment by Djsasso (talk · contribs) at Template talk:WikiProject United States#Adding AL, FL, GA, IL, MO, and TN is to the contrary. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:09, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

I'd never heard of it. Anyway, that makes it one heckuva lot more complicated to add in another. I made a start at {{WikiProject United States/sandbox}} but am finding so many problems with the existing template that it could take some hours of real time. Another problem is that of page load time: every edit, preview, diff and save takes an inordinately long time. @Semmendinger: I've sandboxed code for the state, but not for the three taskforces (Atlanta, Education and South Georgia). More complexity.

To be clear if the people involved in the projects want to do it, by all means do it. I just think you need to think long and hard on why you want to do it and what actual benefit there is to doing it. Its a lot of work to do, so there should be some benefit other than just being able to use the same banner in my opinion. -DJSasso (talk) 23:02, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

South Georgia College

South Georgia College was recently converted into a disambiguation page after the article was moved to South Georgia State College. There are perhaps a few additional tasks that may need some attention from editors interested in or knowledgeable about the topics.

1. See a note on Talk:South Georgia College about another defunct institution South Georgia College at Thomasville which was apparently fairly well-known contemporaneously in the late 1800s. That's in addition to the defunct Methodist institution in McRae.
2. Most of What links here for South Georgia College likely should point to South Georgia State College, although to avoid anachronisms, the links perhaps should be piped or go through some new redirect such as South Georgia College (Douglas). And in that case, perhaps the defunct schools should be disambiguated as South Georgia College (Thomasville) and South Georgia College (McRae). And there are some articles such as Charles Mercer Snelling or Seaborn Roddenbery or University and college buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places which should link to one of the defunct institutions.
3. Perhaps Category:South Georgia College and subcategories should be renamed.

Roads: "Not part of the National Highway System"

Most Georgia state routes have this sentence, which seems very unnecessary:

SR XXX is not part of the National Highway System, a system of roadways important to the nation's economy, defense, and mobility. [source]

Since most are not on the National Highway System, should these all be removed? I removed it from GA 247 without realizing that every single state highway had this sentence (except for those that are on the National Highway System, of course). There are likely over 200 pages to update. HotdogPi 18:33, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Still Active?

Is this project still active? I've never really done any major updates on wikipedia, but I have been doing some research on Georgia Land Lotteries, and the article isn't great.
