Dual task forces?

I suggest that the former countries in Europe should be dual task forces of WP:European history, precisely in the way that Wikipedia:WikiProject_Korea/Military_history is a task force of both WP:WikiProject Korea and WP:MILHIST. Any thoughts? I think this would simply involve us listing them as task forces at WP:European history. You never know, editors following the link would come to the subpage of this project and might expand their interest to other former countries.--Doug.(talk contribs) 20:08, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Definitely. Good idea. — OwenBlacker (Talk) 16:44, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Article in scope protected

I've just protected Ming Dynasty, a featured article in scope for this project, giving it its second protection in under a month. Both have been caused by edit warring about maps and discussion - the issue being Tibet. Editors from this wikiproject are likely to have minimal political axes to grind on the issue, and thus could prove helpful. If folks could go review the dispute, do some independent research, and help find a consensus that will stick I would appreciate it. GRBerry 15:38, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 615 of the articles assigned to this project, or 29.1%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:47, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit Warring at Nanyue

Urgent attention is needed at Nanyue to prevent continual edit warring. User Webster121 suspected of vandalising article to advance pro-Vietnam views and utilising sockpuppetry to facilitate his serial policy violations. 122.109.98.117 (talk) 05:16, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! List of countries in chronological order of achieving statehood

Does anybody want to take a look at List of countries in chronological order of achieving statehood? It is full of dubious countries and other errors. For example, it says that Bohemia, not the Czech Republic, became independent on January 1, 1993 from Czechoslovakia. (An IP keeps changing that one back.) Thanks, Phlegm Rooster (talk) 17:38, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Biafra

Just to let everyone here know, Wikipedia:Spotlight is going to be working on the article Biafra, which, per a talk page template, falls under this Wikiproject; while we will certainly not be the only ones editing the article during this time, if anyone here is interested in the article and would like to join our effort, we use the IRC room #wikipedia-spotlight. Thanks!--danielfolsom 22:35, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Former country

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:16, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Norgesveldet

In Norway the period roughly from the time of unification (preceeded by Petty kingdoms of Norway) under Harald Fairhair until the Kalmar Union (sometimes seemingly just the peak of Norway between these events though..) is called Norgesveldet, Norway conquered northern parts of Britain, Iceland, Greenland (Vinland) etc. However there doesn't seem to be a consensus about the English term(?), I have seen all these terms used; "Norwegian Empire", "The Golden Age of Norway" and "The Wealth of Norway".

Well, what my question really is, shouldn't there be made such an article (regardless of the name used) about this "First" Norwegian kingdom, era, or whatever it is called, in the manner of the articles about French First Republic, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland etc.? (An article exist in Norwegian wikipedia Norgesveldet, however this article treats Norgesveldet as somewhat of only a term being used..). My point is though, if not eventually named a translation of Norgesveldet, at least there be created an article named "Kingdom of Norway (872-1397)" or something like that.Gabagool (talk) 23:33, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Move/rename Russian Alaska -> Russian America

Please see move/rename discussion at Talk:Russian Alaska.Skookum1 (talk) 15:59, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Colonies were not "Former countries"

Unless the parameters of this WikiProject and its accompanying categories define them that way, that is. If colonies are included then Category:Former countries in North America is missing a bunch (see {{Canadian colonies}} template for starters) but I have my doubts whether that's valid at all. Russian Alaska (so-called, its proper name is Russian America, see previous section) was a colony, a possession, of the Russian Empire, it was not a country in its own right....Dominion of Newfoundland is dicier maybe, as it was still part of the British Empire, but then so was the Dominion of Canada until the Statutes of Westminster....the Provisional Government of Oregon was not a country, although it tried to behave like one...I dunno, although I've posted the prevous section here because it was one of the WPs listed on that talkpage I have very strong doubts about the use of hte categories attached to this wikiproject; strict parameters are neede and I dno't think colonies belong at all. Unless all former European colonies in Africa are to be listed as well, for exampel, and then it's just redundant with the colonies categories....Skookum1 (talk) 16:11, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
