Electrical machines

Is there any specific collaboration working in the area of electrical machines (motors, generators)? Anybody interested or knowing contributors who are interested? --Pjacobi (talk) 20:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Assessment and manual of style

I was looking through the main page since I haven't been too active here lately and I noticed that we lack a manual of style for certain types of engineering related articles. Can I have some input from other users as to how we should do this. Alot of articles within our scope also haven't been tagged or assessed. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 11:44, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Construction

Hi. Can I just ask if anyone would be interested in joining WikiProject Construction if it was created since it is a proposed daughter project on both WikiProject Architecture and WikiProject Engineering. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 10:56, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I came in here to propose the same thing. I'm not quite sure where it would fit in, but there doesn't seem to be a place specifically for people in the construction/construction materials/built environment field.
There would be some overlap currently with Civil Engineering and to a lesser extent Architecture, but I think it could help improve Wikipedia. I'm not sure how to define the scope...relevant topics might include construction materials, notable people & companies, specific projects, construction methods, construction management, and equipment.
Now that I've written that out, I'm going to propose it on the project proposal page. Mr. Welsh (talk) 14:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Schools DVD Update

Please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia_CD_Selection/additions_and_updates#Design_and_Technology where the proposed changes in Engineering to go from the 2007 Schools DVD to the 2008 Schools DVD are listed. Any comments or improvements welcome --BozMo talk 20:53, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Just for clarity the updates and additions are to this base list: http://schools-wikipedia.org/wp/index/subject.Design_and_Technology.Engineering.htm --BozMo talk 16:50, 20 February 2008 (UTC)sig

Layout

Guys, I really dont like this fixed width layout of this page. It fills only more than a half of my 1280px wide screen :( Would anyone be mad if I change it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Javaboy.ms (talkcontribs) 16:37, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

It annoys me too, but I'm not a member of the project so you ought to wait for someone else to comment. - tholly --Turnip-- 17:19, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
I have no objection to it being made proportional (ie 100%) provided that the layout still flows properly. If you think that it's bad on a 1280px screen, you haven't seen it on my 1600px wide screen... --Athol Mullen (talk) 23:39, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Nuts

Pictures next to links:

I think it would be helpful to include pictures next to links to aid users in finding what they are looking for. An example is the lock nut page. There is a list of a bunch of different types of lock nuts, but without pictures it is difficult to find the specific type that you are looking for. With parts you often only have the part and a notion of what general category that part falls under. When trying to find the actual name to order more for example it is helpful to have an accompanying picture in relevant general sections. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.132.24.48 (talk) 15:40, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Engineers mess

No pun intended!

I have looked at 'pages needing attention / engineering' and made a couple of comments on several pages, however although also a professional engineer, before I would be prepared to engage further I beleive what is needed is an Engineers mess similar to the Doctors mess where engineers engaged on improving engineering Articles, providing peer reveiws etc can come for assistance from POV warrior attacks, Administrator actions, expert advice, assistance with certain articles etc. Generally to work in concert, like I have witnessed effectively functioning at the above site in relation to medical Articles that I also edit.

Is this the right place, and an acceptable approach? Jagra (talk) 01:42, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

On reflection perhaps a Site Office is more appropriate for Engineers? I have in mind an external and internal shot of a portable field office but at short notice this was best I could find on Wikimedia, a sort of tardis effeect, still it can always be changed. The intention is for somewhere Engineers can gather to improve Articles and generate co-operative effort. It is the concept that I look for consensus on, at this time. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Category:Relocated buildings and structures

I recently created and populated Category:Relocated buildings and structures. There is also structure relocation, which I wasn't initially aware of. Hopefully the category will be useful. Noting it here in case anyone wants to join in and help out with either article or category. Carcharoth (talk) 08:53, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 525 articles are assigned to this project, of which 165, or 31.4%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. More than 150 projects and work groups have already subscribed, and adding a subscription for yours is easy - just place the following template on your project page:

If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page; I'm not watching this page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:07, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Could someone take a quick look at the new page Upload a file and its associated talk page? It was a speedy deletion candidate, which I declined. I think it is still likely to fail notability guidelines but it turned out to be more complicated than I was expecting and I have run out of time today. Thanks. Electrical Engineering Project?

I am surprised to see this does not exist! (unless I missed it??) Certainly there are enough articles to start this project? Comments? daviddoria (talk) 23:05, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Engineering

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Image description help: steam plant

Commons:Category:Georgetown PowerPlant Museum has a lot of visually good images (if I say so myself), but most of them lack good descriptions. That's because I don't know much about this sort of technology. If anyone does know wants to look at them and add more meaningful descriptions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Some examples of what could use descriptions:

If you do this, please go even through what has descriptions, because probably some of them are wrong.
