I strongly object to one of your project members adding the WP Education template to a mass of articles that have nothing to do with education, eg cathedrals, neolithic monuments and sports governing bodies. Please see:

Jean-Pol Martin and Learning by teaching

I am sorely troubled by the articles Jean-Pol Martin and Learning by teaching. These articles (and others) have been placed in WP by Dr. Martin himself, under the name User:Jeanpol, thus violating some basic precepts of WP. These articles seem to be linked to each other in the "See also" section. There has already been some comment about these articles, but it seems to have lapsed, and meanwhile they continue to exist. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. Academic elitism

This article is almost as small as the references provided for it. I don't think it is strong enough (a topic) to stand as its own article. I'm suggesting a merge with the article "Elitism". Why is there a single paragraph on the subject in the "Elitism" article, when the link provides little more than less than three more paragraphs of information. European Business School London

Does anyone know if this (and the associated Regent's College) is in any sense a "proper" institution. I can find no reliable other infomration on the web about them other than other adverts. The article themeslves read like an advertisment for what I suspect are really small money making colleges rather than an educational institutions proper. I suspect wikipedia is being used create a misleading impression as to the instituions standing. The UK has I think an increasing number of unregulated/uncredited insitutions (Msrasnw (talk) 19:04, 28 March 2009 (UTC))

National Board of Medical Examiners

Can people with some knowledge of the subject take a pass at National Board of Medical Examiners, and possibly also Federation of State Medical Boards. The first one was proposed for deletion. I deprodded it and dropped some references in, it looks like a notable organisation, but I'm out of depth and it could use subject specific experts. what is portfolio assessment

I just recently had a meeting with my childs resource teacher and she mentioned the my daughter could be put in an alternate portfolio assessment, she told me she would graduate but she wouldn't get a real high school diploma, I'm wondering what kind of diploma would she get and what good is it to put her in this if she doesn't even get a high school diploma, it would be like her going through 12 years of school for nothing, could someone please answer this for me? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.163.27.36 (talk) 16:18, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. They sound like they're mostly interested in institutions, instead of pedagogy. Do you know where I could find someone that knows more than I do about reading instruction? I need some help dealing with an agenda editor who is trying to fork all of the reading- and dyslexia-related articles into country-specific "ghettos". He has asserted, e.g., that the process of understanding what's printed on a page (reading comprehension) is significantly different for native English speakers in the USA compared to native English speakers in other English-speaking countries. The other side of this coin is that there are top level summary articles which explain and describe the General concepts, but the specifics regarding are dependent of the writing system being used and the variation in orthography of the notion of speech that is the subject of a reading instruction. This will vary from Country to Country, even where there may appear to be a common language. Dyslexia is about having one or more neurological problems accessing and processing the visual notion of speech, or written language. So to provide a wiki global view of reading there needs to be a Global summary style article, which is the Main article for a Category "Reading instruction by country" countries are not Ghettos, but about how the languages have evolved differently, how the writing systems have evolved differently, and how the teaching of reading has evolved differently. There is no universal apprach to the teaching of reading, and this needs to be reflected in how WIKi addresses this issue. How the USA appraches these issues may only apply to the USA, and not other countries even other English Speaking Counties. So the main Global Article needs to move away from its current Reading comprehension USA based content to become the main global article, or it is moved to Reading comprehension in the United States to make way for a new Global "Reading comprehension" Article. This principle has been applied to all other sections of the Education portal and this topic should be treated exactly the same. dolfrog (talk) 02:28, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Proposed merge

I think GCE Advanced Level in the United Kingdom should be merged to GCE Advanced Level because the former article actually covers every country fairly well that takes A levels. Then I'll sort the redirects out, and possible suggest a move of GCE Advanced Level to somthing simpler, but first things first. Having two pages is pointless, confusing, and unnecessary. I generally support one article that includes everything. If you discover as you work on it, that there are a lot of UK-specific details, then a good second choice is to merge as much as possible, and leave the rest in a separate article. I have had a look that the content of both articles and you are right about the duplication of content. I am aware that there could be some internal changes to the UK education structure which could provide provide additional or alternative qualifications for the same age group, so may be if such an article does not already exist, the United Kingdom article could be moved to a new title to cover all of the possible Exam qualifications that the 16 - 18 year old age group could acquire to possible further education including a section regarding GCE A'levels. dolfrog (talk) 01:11, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Request for article on deep and surface learning

Can I please make a request for an article on the differences between surface and deep learning? At the moment, requests for these topics get redirected to an article that itself does not say much. These are terms widely used in educational theory and practice, and I think that if we included an article on them (we could have an article covering both approaches, and we could either call it "Deep learning and surface learning" or "surface learning and deep learning") it would improve Wikipedia's coverage of education topics. Should a project group with such broad coverage be sub-divided?

You are a very broad-ranging project group, and indeed, looking at how this page is laid out, I see that you yourselves have listed sister project groups, such as that for universities. I therefore wondered whether this was best divided into a number of task forces - for example, one for primary education, one for secondary education, one for further education, one for higher education and one for adult education. After all, people with expertise, experience and knowledge of one field might not be able to contribute to other fields (my job involves lecturing in higher education, but I would not have much knowledge of education in the compulsory sector, i.e. below the age of sixteen in my home country, the United Kingdom. Need for American high school article

Because the article High School has a truncated version and refers to Secondary education in the United States article which is not, strictly speaking about high schools. It cannot be used as a link in all high schools in the US. Because the secondary ed article contains middle schools and junior high school neither can it be used as a link for high schools. Really need to restructure here so a link can be used for each schools without worrying that schools will be lumped in that shouldn't be. Insisting on lumping all schools together as if they always are in reality, is not a good idea. Works for teachers, but not for Wikipedia articles.

I'm not convinced that anyone is really on top of these US articles anymore. They are in pretty poor shape and a fork tomorrow wouldn't work anyway because of poor quality. Requests for footnotes are just ignored.

Probably need (and no, I'm not volunteering. I have another specialty) an Education Project for the US that might be able to focus a bit better.

Also, I am not sure whether I should be asking this question on Project Schools or Project Education. Was never too clear on the difference. I have a feeling I will be sent to the other project by either one of you!  :) Student7 (talk) 11:42, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Changed "Directed at health rather than normalization".

I replaced it with "...directed at behaviors that please the most people as opposed to normalization". Which might be the same thing. But saying that JRC values the health of its students over normalization of its students is a lie. I think what they might mean is that they don't try to "normalize" the students by treating them normal, but they will do anything to normalize the student's behavior, even if what they do to that student to make them normal is not normal.

Early childhood education by country

Why not a category: Early childhood education by country with appropriate subcategories; which as well as general articles would include particular kindergartens & nursery school articles. It doesn't make a lot of sense to subdivide small categories. If there are fewer than 50 articles in the main category, I'd leave it all right there, as a convenience to the reader (who will be able to see everything all at once). WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:37, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Mathematics Education

I'd like to separate the US-specific mathematics education topic from mathematics education in general (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics_education). A) There's enough about mathematics education historically and in general so that Math Ed can stand on its own, and B) there's a lot of "controversy in the US" content that is out of place without similar content from other countries. I'm posting here to see what others think about it before I go ahead and do, as there haven't been any responses to this proposal on the Math Ed talk page. OT

There hs been numerous articles in medical, educational and psychological journals suggesting Sensory intergation, a form of OT has no proven benefit. There is much concern that OT used so often in ADHD children might actually make them worse. In a minor research project 250 parents who came in for a neurological evaluation to solve their childrens problems suggested the OT given to their children prior to neurologicsl assessment all stated OT did not help at all. Request for expert attention

Can someone look at Committee on National Security Systems? Besides the obvious needed refferences, I am having a hard time with the educational certification section. The issue is, I can't find anyone who knows the exact nature of the certifications. Is it purely given to the istitution? Does a person graduating in that program get the cerfification? An expert could also outline the reuirements for attaining the degree. I have also seen orginizations offering certification outside of educational institutions, I am not sure how this works. I know the NSA offers its Information Assurance Manager (IAM) and IEM courses at Black Hat, but I'm not sure if there is any parallel. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Sudbury Education merger discussions

A heads up, there are currently proposals afoot to merge the Daniel Greenberg and Sudbury school articles (discussion here), as well as merging portions of Sudbury Valley School into Sudbury school (discussion here). The latter seems a reasonable solution to duplication between the two articles, while the former is a proposed solution to claims that Daniel Greenberg is not notable.
