Hello, I've just created this article, but don't have much background knowledge of him, his work, or the general subject matter. ;-) So please take a look & fix it up as needed. -- Visviva (talk) 20:19, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

If anyone has a moment and can dig up relevant non-English sources, I'd really appreciate it. Feel free to edit them in yourself, or pass them to me if you're busy. Two templates very similar
Colleagues, as a newcomer not quite sure where to turn: found two suspiciously similar templates, Template:Czech Republic topics and Template:The Czech Republic topics. Is it a mistake? Should they be united? Littledogboy (talk) 23:04, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- They should. Both have transclusions, so I would suggest turning one into a redirect to the other. Not sure which of the two to prefer. - filelakeshoe 23:40, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- IMHO Template:Czech Republic topics looks more better, only Culture... isn't it messed up a little? Littledogboy (talk) 00:08, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- I have redirected the recently created "The..." version and replaced the transclusions with the older template. Cloudz679 06:07, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for that! Btw, any clue as to what's wrong with Culture section of Template:Czech Republic topics (at the bottom)? Littledogboy (talk) 17:08, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Anyone else
I'm just checking my facts before making claims that may be incorrect. To the best of my knowledge Martin Růžička (a member of the Czech Republic men's national ice hockey team who plays for a Russian club) is the only non-tennis player British/American citizen on en.wp deliberately given an "English name." Is that correct? Or does anyone know of others, cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:37, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- As you know, this article was a part of a mass anti-diacritics movement by user:Dolovis. There were hundreds of ice hockey articles created by him deliberately without diacritics. Most of them should be at their correct names now. The rest should be moved. - Darwinek (talk) 21:07, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

- Oh, I wouldn't. Even the red links are useful. As long as they will be present there, the probability that someone will find useful to write about the topic is much higher than otherwise.
- And also by even only being present there, the terms actually show the hierarchy in Judiciary system of CZ and by this means it also carry information of its own. --Reo + 21:39, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Stray template
There is an apparently forgotten Template:Czech Cabinet, which is supposed to give current cabinet members, but until today presented the old Fišer’s cabinet, and which is currently transcluded only in the Petr Nečas article. I think the template should be either more widely deployed and regularly maintained, or deleted to avoid confusion.—Emil J. 14:21, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- I would put it on the articles in the template. Could we make a list of templates on this project page to help us maintain them? - filelakeshoe 14:31, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've deployed the template already on the existing pages. Good idea about templates to update, what did you have in mind other than the template mentioned in this discussion, Filelakeshoe? On the cs Wiki they have no "current cabinet" but cs:Šablona:Vláda Petra Nečase, for example. Cloudz679 14:56, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hm, actually there is already Category:Czech Republic templates (which I added this to). Nearly all of the ones which are susceptible to change often are the politics ones. - filelakeshoe 15:12, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

I am actually surprised, that there is so many of the articles of the cabinet members missing. Food for thought ... (I take it as an inspiration for some of the free weekends) --Reo + 20:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Some of the ministries themselves are missing too... I decided to make a quick table so we can identify the gaps. I hope it is inspiration to anyone reading this who wants to extend political coverage on the English-lanaguge Wikipedia. Cloudz679 21:55, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Another stray template and duplicate at that
Similarly to the TMPL:Czech Cabinet, the Template:Czech Cabinets is stray onne, it is also duplicate to the Template:Cabinets of the Czech Republic. It is supposed to give all Czech cabinets untill now. It is unmaintained and only transcluded in the First Klaus' cabinet and in the template the last Nečas' cabinet is actually missing. Also by the format it is second-rate to the Template:Cabinets of the Czech Republic. What to do with it? It seems, that to delete it and replace it, in that one instance, would be the best thing. (I am going to replace it now in the Klaus' cabinet art.) What do You think? --Reo + 17:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Nomination of Petr Bohačík for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Petr Bohačík is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Petr Bohačík until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Request - There is a deletion discussion happening for this Czech basketball player that may be of interest. Particularly, I think the discussion would benefit from editors who are fluent in both English and Czech to help research whether the subject meets WP:GNG. It is possible that he is not notable, or it is possible that he is notable but non-routine coverage is difficult to find for non-native speakers. Thanks for any help editors from this project can give in this effort. Rikster2 (talk) 13:24, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Rename Legal system of the Czech Republic
Hi, when starting Legal system of the Czech Republic, I thought it was a good translation of právní řád České republiky. Now I think moving the page to a more general title would be beneficial. Can you please help me decide between Law of the Czech Republic, or Law in the Czech Republic, or Czech law, or even Law of Czech Republic? (Mind you, the article is still work in progress.) Littledogboy (talk) 14:46, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Klobasnek
Have you ever heard of Klobasnek? Ever?? Littledogboy (talk) 19:25, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- No. I've seen similar food in the Czech Republic (I mean varieties of sausage baked in dough), but it wasn't named "Klobasnek". The word sounds non-Czech, apart from traditional "klobásek" or "klobása". I guess it was invented in Texas. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 08:01, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- I have, but not by that name. I had a friend from Texas here in Prague who was shocked that the Czech "koláče" look nothing like this, meanwhile I was totally bemused by the idea that someone would put sausage in a koláč. It is most certainly a Texan thing. Also remember that the Texan permutations of West Slavic languages (which have a relatively rich history by American linguistic standards) would be pretty difficult for Europeans to understand, so "klobasnek" may be/have been a legitimate word in Texan Czech. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 09:01, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- What puzzled me was how to fill in the missing diacritic marks – is it supposed to read klobášnek, or rather klobásnack? But who knows, sometimes the expats (krajánci) preserve traditions long forgotten in the fatherland (otčina). Littledogboy (talk) 19:39, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oops, not a good time to make fun of kolacze. Littledogboy (talk) 14:33, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Can't resist posting another valuable find – Dozhinki. That'd be from Texan linguistic department? Littledogboy (talk) 18:10, 12 April 2013 (UTC)
- Nah that's definitely from East Slavic, azbuka transcription - the only English source which mentions "Dozhinki" says it's a traditional name used in Ukraine. Czech grammar question
Hello, I was wondering while editing the Grammatical gender article how Czech might treat groups of mixed gender. For example, if one has a feminine and a neuter noun together, what gender are they considered to be? Let's say (apologies for any errors): jablko a jahoda jsou dobré? or dobrá? or maybe dobrí? What about other gender combinations? (Hope this makes sense.) Victor Yus (talk) 12:57, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- jablko a jahoda jsou dobré is grammatically correct. :) - Darwinek (talk) 13:15, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. So feminine and neuter together are treated as feminine, is that right? What about other combinations? Victor Yus (talk) 14:15, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm trying to find out something in English, but it looks like an impossible task. It's a very complicated area, you can find various combinations here, but that's in Czech. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 14:35, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, that link seems it might be just what I was looking for (pity for me that it's in Czech, but I guess I can just about plough through it). Would it count as a reliable source for a WP article? (Though standards of reliability appear to be quite lax in the linguistics area.) Victor Yus (talk) 07:26, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Of course it would, it was published by the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 07:33, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent... well I hope to cite it in the gender article, once I've worked out what it says. Victor Yus (talk) 07:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Feel free to ask here or on my talk page if you need any help, but I'm no expert linguist :( --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 07:56, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

The rule I always remembered is that the "priority" of genders is always: 1: masculine animate, 2: masculine inanimate/feminine, 3: neuter. So the "highest priority" gender which is present in the group is the one that the verb or adjective takes. Just remember that the neuter plural forms "ta jablka jsou dobrá" are often restricted to written Czech only. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 10:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, yes, that's more or less what I deduced from the page linked to (with the added proviso that the result can be neuter plural only if every component is neuter and plural, apparently). I've written up my summary at the bottom of Czech declension (and linked to it from the grammatical gender article, as an example of a quite complex rule system), should anyone wish to take a look and add/correct/improve anything. Cage bed...
... seems to fall within this project... Just sayin' Littledogboy (talk) 15:50, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, you may be right. This BBC article says that cage beds are used only in the Czech Rep. and Slovakia, however, this (more up-to-date) source says they are used also in other European countries. They are associated with the Czech Rep. mainly due to the campaign of Mrs. Rowling. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 10:26, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Danish students in Prague
In February of this year, there were a number of problems with Danish students in the city, getting drunk and damaging hotels. I have a number of sources with which to start an article Prague Monitor (second) Czech Radio, Prague Post and Copenhagen Post (second) UPI - possibly "see also" link at Prague Post but I have no idea as to a suitable title. If anyone could provide a suitable name, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, C679 09:38, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hah, I don't think that's really notable enough for its own article, lest we also start British Stag Parties in Bratislava, Drunk German Motorcycle Fetishists in Brno and a whole load of others. It would be a difficult article to write and keep NPOV especially if only written from newspaper sources, which are usually written with some agenda or other behind them. Might be time to turn that Prague tourism redirect into an article. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 09:44, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
Czech Republic confused with Chechnya in the US social media ...
See Talk:Boston_Marathon_bombings#Czech_ambassador.27s_statement and [2], [3], [4], [5]. I'm speechless. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 15:31, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- We shouldn't be too surprised. Czech[ia] and Chechnya sound similar in English and the Czech Republic is far better known than Chechnya, so it's an understandable mistake to think of the place you've heard of. And how much do we Europeans really know about America?? The two Washingtons often cause confusion for a start! --Bermicourt (talk) 07:38, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- hah, as I pointed out to someone on Facebook, if Mr. President decided to rename Prague "Zeman City" and Vysočina Region "Zeman Region" the same confusion would occur! I'm not sure more people have heard of Czech Republic, loads of these tweeters were still calling it Czechoslovakia, meanwhile Chechnya has probably been highlighted in the news a lot more recently. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 18:31, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- True. My knowledge of the US geography and states improved only after I started editing English Wikipedia, and it still isn't perfect. I think that's because we Europeans tend to see the USA as one country ... --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 08:16, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- Probably. Mind you I had to chuckle once in Shiloh, Tennessee, when the hotel receptionist said "Gee, Paris, is that near France?" ! But then I never knew that there were counties with English names like Suffolk or Somerset in the US until I visited. It all seemed very strange! --Bermicourt (talk) 08:26, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Přehláska?
Sources have Jaroslav Hübl, do we normally represent "Germanic" umlauts with Czech bios?
- Jaroslav Hubl (ice hockey b. 1982) + Jaroslav Hubl (ice hockey b. 1957)
In ictu oculi (talk) 02:00, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
- The umlaut is nothing unusual in Czech names, given the Czech/German history of the Czech Rep. Their name is pronounced Hybl, not Hubl. The names should be corrected. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 15:42, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Improved Czech Texan; if you have time to expand this, there are enough sources to turn this into a DYK. Also, someone with Czech language ability may want to break out the Texas Czech language section into a separate article. Djembayz (talk) 19:51, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Seasons in Czech (Association) football
I have created three new categories for Czech football seasons ie Category:2010–11 in Czech football, Category:2011–12 in Czech football & Category:2012–13 in Czech football. These are parent categories for Category:Czech Republic football clubs 2010–11 season etc, and should include other articles. As categories like Category:2011 in Czech sport and Category:2010 in Czech television use "Czech" not "Czech Republic" I think the use of just "Czech" is justified for seasons in (association) football as well. Hugo999 (talk) 12:42, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I added the league articles. While we're on this topic, I'm not fond of the title "2012–13 Czech 2. Liga" - firstly "Liga" shouldn't be capitalised, and secondly that league is no longer called "2. česká fotbalová liga" but "národní fotbalová liga" (national football league), can we name next season's article accordingly? - filelakeshoe (t / c) 13:21, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Good point, could be a problem due to WP:USEENG, especially since the translation is National Football League. Does anyone have an idea about a "better" title for the parent article? C679 15:54, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- "Czech national football league"? It is "national" as opposed to the semi-professional divisions below it which are divided into regions, the parent article could include all this info. We could also just use "národní (fotbalová) liga" as a title, we don't bother translating e.g. Nemzeti Bajnokság or Serie A, though admittedly the latter is far more familiar to people. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 07:31, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Btw, in case someone beats me to creating 2013–14 Gambrinus liga (we should know who'll be in it this weekend), you might want to copy stuff from here, I was messing around trying to work out how to do that thing they do on the Premier League articles and list Prague clubs in the bottom corner. Looks a bit tidier. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 09:56, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

- Don't forget last season Usti won the league but weren't permitted to ground-share in Teplice as they had done in their previous top-flight season. Czech football hey?! Zlin's stadium seems to meet the requirements, or to be thereabouts! C679 14:44, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

You have probably noticed the recent news on Czech political scene ... I have attempted to summarize the most important facts in a subsection of the article Petr Nečas. I don't think the title of the section is perfect or that description of this event in his bio is OK, but I can't think of anything better. The event should be covered separately, but again, I'm not sure how to name it. Perhaps 2013 Czech government scandal? But the event is more closely associated with the PM than with the whole government. Any hints? --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 11:46, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

You say THAT is Scandal?? My 2 caveat wiki paragraphs did not edit or change one word by anyone but added true perspective regarding the Holy Infant of Prague THEY WERE BOTH REPEATEDLY DELETED Here are the 2 caveat paragraphs to which I now add a Papal third: History Caveat Wiki - It should be noted that until the late 1980's this Holy Sign Icon was practically universally known without using the name of Jesus, as The Infant of Prague, in exact fulfillment of Hosea 2:16-17. Also, the only truly known origin of the hand-less Icon, a pile of rubble after the Thirty Years War, was later verified and supported in the nineteenth century by the events at Lourdes, France, around a pile of rubble. There have also been repeated fabricated attempts to base this powerful Holy Self-made miraculous Sign-Icon of Prague in Spain, because the timing of its discovery and Hosea fulfillment contradicts the anti-Semitic text then being prepared by Mary of Agreda in Spain solely to try to sell an apocryphal, scandalous, sinfully violative of the first two Commandments and therefore impossible name, "Joakim", for the father of Mary already 1000 years honorably secured as Levite "Amram" by the Holy Qoran. Papal Caveat Wiki (again) - Firstly, it should be noted in regard to the so-called Ratzinger "coronation" that for this event the hair on the Prague Holy Icon was painted unprecedented non-Jewish, non-Jacob (Genesis 25:21 et seq.), red. Also, the September 2009 event itself either never officially took place or could not last becase the Sanctuary of The Infant of Prague had been violated in April, 2009. Apparently Ratzinger had not cared to notice this. But when the Czech Republic rightly excluded/deported from Czech territory David Duke as undesirable or even dangerous in late April, 2009, it neither then nor thereafter made any provision for the human rights of Duke (who had actually kept an image of the Infant of Prague on his website the whole time he was getting his PhD), to obtain even a limited and guarded day pass access to the Holy Infant of Prague Shrine Sanctuary, which is not "Czech Territory". No one has sued the Czech government or the Vatican over this yet. (Papal caveat contiued): But of course Ratzinger did not notice the April Prague Sabctuary violation as he wormed his way, with his Knight Waldheim, into the Holy Mosque on Temple Mount two weeks later on Msy 13, 2009. He did not see the Bob Dylan song, "Desolation Row", copyright chain from the nailed curtains to the broken doorknob, either, nor did he notice that the entire April event coincided exactly with the impossible finding of "probable cause" against Ingmar Guandique for the May 2001 Chandra Levy murder done by the Matt Hale/Knight Waldheim sponsoring FBI. How could he notice these instant replay basics when he never believed how anti-Semitic Mary of Agreda was told off in 1650 from a pile of rubble? Nobody messes with the Hosea 2: 16-17 abstract "Atlas Shrugged" Holy Infant.

If you will stop deleting my LEGAL and SAFE Scripturally proven needed caveats, I will stop deleting your COMPLETELY MISLEADING Daniel 7 murder racket propaganda. BLP still using American name 15 years later?
George Zidek, name given to Jiři Žídek Jr. (1973), seems a little weird. He played basketball in US for only 3 years then went on to Germany using his real (Czech) name. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:24, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- It is a little weird. This reflects his common name in American English, and his many years in European baketball have little coverage in English compared to his American career. I would support a move, but I don't consider it too important. Post here if you propose one at the article. --(AfadsBad (talk) 13:35, 12 September 2013 (UTC))
- His Czech surname is not Žídek but Zídek, In ictu oculi. He spent in US only a brief part of his career (although he became very famous in the Czech Rep. at that time as the first Czech NBA player) and didn't change his name, apart from Bobby Holík. He is still pretty active in the Czech/European basketball scene (this article by Hospodářské noviny (September 2013, in Czech) says: "Zídek ... is one of the most important personalities in the European basketball. He is a member of the commissions of both European and International Basketball Federation (FIBA), coordinator of transnational relations between the Russian VTB League and the Euroleague." George Zidek is outdated, renaming to Jiří Zídek would be more respectful and correct. Just my opinion. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 14:50, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, English Wikipedia uses American English names when they have achieved some degree of fame in English under that name. No shock or disrespect there. He did receive quite a lot of mention in the American press and not just the sporting press, during his brief time in the US. If you want to change the name, you can propose doing that at the article to gain community consensus. --(AfadsBad (talk) 15:43, 12 September 2013 (UTC))
- Thanks, I didn't notice it was Zídek, being more familiar with Ivo Žídek than basketball. Bobby Holík became a US citizen in 1996, I think it's a bit different from a green card for 3 years. I have left comment on the Talk page, and if there's no significant new contrary information arising there probably will put in a WP:RM tomorrow or the day after. Does anyone with this project have any issues with this edit? Thanks. Dohn joe (talk) 19:46, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Not at all, except I think saying that "Pilsen" is no longer used in English is wrong – the krajský úřád and the city's homepage both use it – I'm not advocating another RM here, btw, since I think we established that Plzeň was used just as commonly, but it's still used to talk about more than just historical events. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 19:56, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I think you're looking at the opposite end of the edit. I was trying to remove the "not used in English" notes from Pilsen, Budweis, etc. - all of which I found in modern sources. I also added the explanatory note at the top re: use of German names. What do you think of that edit? Dohn joe (talk) 20:01, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, yeah, I got confused there. To be honest I prefer your general note about German names, because it explains to the reader why we (and every encyclopedia and travel guide) have this unwritten rule about putting the German name in the lede sentence, and may help them understand historical writing. But it would be good to stress that for example "Prague" and "Elbe" are used more often in relation to their Czech names than "Franzensbad" and "Giant Mountains", though difficult to verify, I suppose. - filelakeshoe (t / c) 20:09, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I agree - I'll think about some wording to that effect. What do you think about the notes on Budweis, etc. - it's false to claim that they are no longer used in English, as with Pilsen, correct? Should we just remove the notes entirely? Dohn joe (talk) 20:20, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- filelakeshoe - what do you say to removing the notes on Budweis, etc. in favor of an asterisk system, similar to the English_exonyms#Belgium section? Dohn joe (talk) 17:48, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Leaflet For Wikiproject Czech Republic At Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Please note
The English Wikipedia and the name of the article Czech Republic is mentioned in a today's article at novinky.cz (in Czech) There seems to be a civic initiative promoting the shorter name of our country - Czechia. Here is their official website, for your information. Members of the initiative are said to write informed posts on the topic Czechia for the Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia, but its administrators delete their contributions immediately. "Articles there did not survive more than five minutes," complained Čižmářová (one of the contributors and members of the initiative [10]). I would like to point out that there is the article Name of the Czech Republic, which mentions the initiative and also various points of view around the issue. The article is open to editing and improvements. But we are not a platform to promote someone's initiatives and personal goals, we record only established facts. And it is fact that Czechia is not established as the name of the Czech Republic in the English speaking areas, at least at the moment. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 08:43, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- Agreed. I have added a link to the relevant article's talk page, for the record. C679 10:51, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, those "informed articles" were just essays of extensive soapboxing which approached the issue from a "let us explain why everyone is wrong" standpoint. Also, anyone using Miloš Zeman as an authority on English usage should be taken out and shot, since he can't even string a coherent sentence together in the language. The bottom line is simple, we'll rename the article when Czechia becomes the common name. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 11:09, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- I guess that one of their contributions was the repeatedly deleted article Czechia - the name dispute, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Czechia - the name dispute, infested by SPA accounts obviously from the Czechia Civic Initiative. Now they present us like censors in the Czech media. --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 11:14, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Cloudz679: just for the record, the news article completely fails to mention the article Name of the Czech Republic, instead giving the wrong impression that any article on this subject is immediately deleted. It might be more appropriate to move the template to Talk:Czech Republic but that page has quite a lot of templates on it. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 11:17, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! Czechia again
Hi. I thought the last time we discussed the country name, the consensus was that "Czech Republic" was the WP:COMMONNAME and that "Czechia" was an acceptable, if less common, English alternative. I ask because User:Yopie is expunging "Czechia" from dozens of Wiki articles on the basis that it's wrong. I would have thought we should reflect the real world and have mainly "Czech Republic" but also some instances of "Czechia". So as a general rule we should leave articles as they are. Views? --Bermicourt (talk) 08:50, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I have no problem with "some instances of Czechia", but I think there is a danger of mass replacing the "Czech Republic" by the shorter "Czechia" by members of various initiatives (see section "Please note" above). --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 05:53, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Complete agreement, I think changing one name to the other unless the use of the name in the context actually is wrong (e.g. Charles IV was born in the Czech Republic - and even then I think I would sooner change it to Bohemia) is disruptive and we should get consensus for a 1RR on it. That would account for the mass edits on both sides of the dispute. – filelakeshoe (t / c) 21:36, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Masterworks of Art in Wikipedia
Hello everyone. I have submitted grant proposal to the Czech ministry of Culture on this project. It will focus on individual notable artworks in Czech galleries and Museums and our aim is to create short articles similar to Apollo and Daphne (Bernini), or Judith Slaying Holofernes (Artemisia Gentileschi). Is there any native English speaker willing to join? --NoJin (talk) 12:44, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- What kind of "grant proposal"? Does that mean that the Czech Ministry of Culture would be your client, expecting nice articles promoting Czech artworks for their money? Do you want to accept only native English speakers? Do you know that Wikipedia is an open project and anyone can edit here? You have no guarantee that I (or other poor non-native English speakers) won't modify the articles :) You are the administrator of http://www.artlib.cz/, is it you who pay 10,000 CZK for a selected article, or Nadace Český literární fond, or other institution? Why did you remove the article Joska Skalník from the Czech WikiProject Art Library (I assume it is the same project you offer here under the name "Masterworks of Art in Wikipedia")? Was it because of your disagreement with an editor who created it with critical section mentioning the artist's collaboration with the Communist Czechoslovak State Police? Is it a part of the contract to write only nice things? --Vejvančický (talk / contribs) 14:59, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
- Your suspicions are completely unsubstantiated. I have proposed this project simply because the notable Czech artworks were ignored on Wikipedia (see article Gothic art, for instance) and also because the final goal of Art Library project were translations of complete articles into English. Premiums of 10 000,-CZK were donated by foundations to stimulate participation of students (of art history) and to create a competitive environment. I will not further comment article on Joska Skalník - it does not conform to our standards regarding articles on artists and we cannot support contributions on other persons.--NoJin (talk) 10:10, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

- Come on people, please. I really need someone Czech to confirm me this. Is it Alojz/Alois Mahek/Machek... accents? FkpCascais (talk) 02:42, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- The spelling "Alois Machek" ("... Alois Machek (PÚB a fotbalista FK Jugoslavija) a žena Marija ...") is found on page 45 here. Doremo (talk) 05:53, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Many thanks for the PDF. It is very interesting as I myself are Serbian from Belgrade with Czech origin. I will move then the article to Alois Machek as that seems to be the correct spelling of his name in Czech, and Alojz Mahek was just a Serbian transliteration of the name. WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
I would be really grateful for any further (properly referenced) information on the early life and the rule in Bohemia of this young Central European monarch. Thank you for your assistance in advance. Borsoka (talk) 04:21, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
Czech sources on the Japanese School in Prague?
Does anyone know of any good Czech newspaper articles or books about the Japanese School in Prague? I'm trying to find more sources for the article.
