Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Texas/Austin task force

Should UT Articles Be Included As Part of WikiProject Austin? edit

WikiProject: University of Texas at Austin handles articles that are within the scope of UT, which is located in Austin. Since that is so, should they be included in Austin's scope? Doing so would introduce a featured article, a featured list, and 4 GAs. This would most definitely boost the notability of WP:Austin. TheAustinMan (talk) 18:01, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I feel that WikiProject UT is really a subproject of both WP Universities and WP Austin. As such, there is some overlap among all of these projects. Including UT articles that are in some way related to the city of Austin (history, buildings, media, events that involve the community, etc.) should be fine for WP Austin. Stuff that's specific to the university (presidents, faculty, academic departments, sports teams and seasons, alumni not otherwise connected to the area, etc.) probably doesn't need to be included in WP Austin. That's my two cents. -Mabeenot (talk) 20:40, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I just wanted to drop a note that WikiProject University of Texas at Austin was recentlymarked as inactive. I recommend pulling it in as a task force of this project. --Kumioko (talk) 14:34, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since it seemed as though there was support at some point to add UTA to the template I went ahead and did it. I would like to migrate the articles on the UTA template over to WPAustin/UTA and then redirect the UTA template to the WPAustin template if thats ok with everyone. I'll leave this open for a couple days to make sure everyone has a chance to comment. --Kumioko (talk) 05:26, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Far West, Austin, Texas edit

Please write the page. Xx236 (talk) 08:21, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's one of the worst pages in this Wikipedia. I want to ask for deletion, but I expect your protests.Xx236 (talk) 12:55, 16 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Xx236: I hope the Far West, Austin, Texas article looks better now. I've been working on it and should be able to expand it more in the next few days. I'll have to merge Northwest Hills to Far West (redirect Northwest Hills' article to this one, and then rename it to "Northwest Hills–Far West, Austin Texas" since Far West is technically in Northwest Hills). I may be able to take photos of the area too. Austin-geo (talk) 06:48, 25 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Reactivate WikiProject Texas? edit

I have just marked WikiProject Texas as inactive. They have not answered their help talk page since at least August 2018, they are not doing assessments, nor do I detect any other project activity. Anyone interested in breathing life back into the project, please let me know if you have any ideas about how to do this. No need to ping, I have added this page to my watch list. Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 23:01, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oldsanfelipe2, Thanks for starting this discussion. I'd like to see the Texas project more active, so curious to see what other project members say. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:40, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Another Believer, Bryanrutherford0 has been assessing some articles here. He is interested in generating more interest in the Texas and Austin projects, though currently he is occupied with a clutch of articles at FAC. Perhaps more talk page traffic will create more interest in the talk pages and a chance that more editors will be interested. Best, Oldsanfelipe2 (talk) 21:03, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

User script to detect unreliable sources edit

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Discussion at Wikipedia:Content assessment edit

You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Content assessment#Proposal: Reclassification of Current & Future-Classes as time parameter, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects. Photo request for All Faiths Chapel edit

Was wondering if anyone here would mind taking a photo of All Faiths Chapel (AKA Chapel for the Children). I should say, it is on the Austin Assisted Living Center, which is private property, so it would be ideal if someone who has access to the property would take the photo. Hope this isn’t a bother, and would heavily appreciate the help. Thanks! Slamforeman (talk) 06:11, 7 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject AustinWikipedia:WikiProject Texas/Austin – Merge this inactive task force into its state's project as a taskforce; matching the location of WP:WikiProject Texas/San Antonio. Much like how WP:WikiProject Los Angeles is a task force of WP:WikiProject California. Task force conversion, like how other inactive wikiprojects have been converted into taskforces of wikiprojects of a superset topic. This wikiproject has been inactive-status for 4 years[1] -- this would implement the supported proposal from 2020. -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 22:34, 8 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
