Admin functions not showing up in 0.8.3

0.8.3 cannot complete an AfD nomination

Let's see... it tags the article, creates the AfD discussion page, then stops working, forcing me to do the last two steps manually.

Well, I'm not 100% sure if thiswhat happened because I haven't looked at the code, but it appears to have run the page's existing text through a command like "string.toLowerCase" somewhere in the processing and apparently failed to restore/save the original case. Feature Request - protection

Welcome messages

{{resolved}} Per discussion at WT:CSD#Suggestion for modification of templates Twinkle's speedy deletion notification templates will be changed later today so that they automatically leave a {{firstarticle}} welcome message on the article creator's talk page if the notification is the first message they have ever received (i.e. they have a red-linked talk page). I'd like to do that with Huggle's templates too. I would also add a section header, mostly for conformity with the twinkle warnings. Any objections to that?

I don't know, but would this affect huggle detecting the earlier warnings issued? I mean, it has to know what level warning was issued earlier in order to decide what has to be used now. I'd only touch the speedy deletion messages, and they don't have levels. The user warnings already start with "Welcome to Wikipedia" and are OK, I think. --Amalthea^Talk 16:36, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I object to adding a section header because if you did that, Huggle would make 2 section headers every time it left a message. (The section header is speedy-message-title in the project config page if it needs to be changed). -- Gurch (talk) 18:38, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you're right. I've created new notification wrappers at {{huggle/db-notice}}, {{huggle/db-bio-notice}}, etc. which do contain a section header, and the conditional {{firstarticle}} template. To prevent huggle from adding a section header of it's own, speedy-message-title needs to be set to an empty string.
I've just tested it (with some moderate hacks in the source code) and warned myself, once with an existing talk page here and once with a new talkpage here. These are the changes that need to be made to Project:Huggle/Config.
The old templates can then be faded out/integrated into the new ones once no one is using them anymore, i.e. has reloaded the project configuration.

Feature requests?

Yep you can already do this. When viewing a page in huggle open the "view" menu and click on "Patrol page". This will then try to patrol the page. Or you can pres Ctrl+P. ·Add§hore· ^Talk/_Cont 09:24, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Lists

I've noticed that Huggle has a whitelist why not create a blacklist that keeps track of users and ips with multiple vandalism reports against them or have been blocked in the past. Flagging edits by these users or ips would make it easier to catch repeat offenders. Being blacklisted wouldn't have to be permanent either it could have an expiration. Huggle works great for me and its working much better than what I had been using to counter vandalism. -Vcelloho (talk) 08:02, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I would think it's a local issue rather than huggle bug, as I have it with Huggle and my own Java program (same error, namely, proxy issues, despite me not even using a proxy). I'm seeing a lot of this new message in 0.8.3. It looks like the page is not advancing forward as a revert is made (as if the "Show new edits to the page as they are made" doesn't click quickly enough). Not sure if this is related to the "Slow response" thread below, but it happens a lot in 0.8.3. In previous versions, if someone beat me to the revert, the revert button would darken, followed by a click and the window would advance forward to show the reverted edit. Oddly enough, if the vandal makes a second vandalism edit, the page does seem to click forward. Just the large scale reverts that seem to take a while to click forward (possibly due to the large amount of text in the revert diff?). Arakunem^Talk 22:16, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Quitting

Interesting problem

If you log into Huggle and then login with the same account on a normal web browser, then log out on the normal web browser, you can use huggle as an IP, see Special:Contributions/216.67.72.167. Icewedge (talk) 06:28, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. Back in the day, this was impossible, as login sessions were completely independent; unfortunately, unified login has changed that, and logging out a unified account anywhere logs it out everywhere. When I ask how I'm supposed to go about detecting this, I get a load of out-of-date answers that assume I'm HTML-scraping the UI, rather than using the API. I thought I had fixed this in the development version a few days ago but managed to reproduce it again; seems MediaWiki isn't too bothered about the edit token it accepts for anonymous edits. I've had to resort to checking the length of the edit token (2 for anonymous edits, 34 for logged-in edits), but it does at least seem to solve the problem -- Gurch (talk) 07:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Reverting in sandbox

Huggle users need to start using Template:uw-sandbox or Huggle's own version for inappropriate edits in the sandboxes instead of the regular vandalism warnings. Clark89 (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Also at times they don't realize which page they are on and revert acceptable edits in the sandbox as vandalism as if it was an article (warning as well), half the time they notice and fix their mistake. I'm being more careful now, but I'm seeing a lot of warnings issued for sandbox usage. Take a look at Blackeyedfool12, for example. Granted, this new user's reactions to the warnings aren't exactly cheerful, but I'm sure this is not the only case. This is a serious problem and I recommend that if it can't be fixed quickly that some method of advising Rollbackers of the problem be implemented right away.--otherlleft^{No, really, other way . . .} 15:31, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Login Problem - please help before I go insane (too late)

This is damn frustrating. I've lurked all the previous threads to hunt for a solution, but it still eludes me. On starting Huggle (0.8.3) I enter my username and password and click login. So far so good. The progress bar moves a bit and then stops and Huggle returns this error:

The remote server returned an error (417) Expectation failed.

My expectations have also taken a pounding.

• 1. Yes, I added the line enable:true to my css.
• 2. Yes, my Zonealarm firewall is allowing Huggle out of it's cage.
• 3. Yes, I do have rollback.
• 4. Yes, I'm using Win 2K, which makes me a near-Luddite on Wiki
• 4. Yes, I have Net 2.0 sp1 freshly installed (and wasn't THAT fun - I had NET 2.0 already then tried upgrading to Net 2.0 sp1. This caused all sorts of install problems - now fixed).
• 5. Yes, the internet works, albeit slowly from here in the third world
• 6. Yes, my computer is turned on.
• 7. Yes, I've tried this on various days and times while standing on one leg and singing the Star Spangled Banner.
• 7. Yes, I've tried everydamnthing i can think of.
• 8. yes, i AM'm starting to lo000se it wwidniht this da,mmnd #@#$#%$%$%5 machinesds.d

Hi Gurch, thanks very much for taking pity on a frustrated would-be-Huggler (Hugglist? Wiki-hugger?). I see what you mean, it seem to be fairly common problem with transparent proxies. Are any of these links helpful? [1],[2] they seem to be people who have solved the same problem. This page has a very explicit fix [3]. Errors while running other programs

I recently noticed that huggle does not seem to work on my computer while I am running other .NET programs. If I try to rollback while I have another program running, I get the message "Reverting page: couldn't grab element "editform", aborting, this could indicate failed respons from the server." AIV reporting

I have noticed that sometimes, even when a user has not been reported or blocked, huggle does not issue an AIV report. I have checked my preferences and reporting is enabled. I am adding this to the issue tracker.--Res2216firestar 17:54, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

This shouldn't apply to vandalism reports, however. The main reason for that delay is that VandalProof is badly designed and will frequently issue warning for reverts made by other users; the 10-second delay ensures that if a VandalProof user issues a warning for a revert made by a Huggle user, Huggle won't then add its own warning as well. Yeah I've noticed this as well. I will notice that the user is at his/her's final warning. I will usually watch the feed to make sure there are not any mistakes. Over the past week or two I have noticed that the issue mentioned above has happened. It has not, however, happened a lot. Maybe 2-3 times in the past week. empty queue at de.wp (0.8.3)

When I connect huggle with de.wp the queues dont fill up. The bottom loglines say, that its connected to the IRC feed, but I'm not sure of that. On en.wp the queues fill, so I guess its not a local firewall problem. --Krawi talk 08:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

That's because de:Wikipedia:Huggle/Config doesn't have some configurations. I can solve that but german wikipedia (like spanish, portuguese and probably others) shouldn't use version 0.8.3 while one bug in summary is not fixed. 0.8.3 problem

Although the version is definitely better in many ways, I'm consistently facing a problem. When I try to cancel any wrong edit while it is in process, the program stops responding. Sometimes this is solved by rushing to Task Manager, but couple of times I couldn't even do that and had to reboot the system. ^LeaveSleaves _talk 17:22, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism-only accounts

Can Huggle use {{uw-voa3}} and {{uw-voa4}} for vandalism-only accounts? -- IRP ☎ 20:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

I totally oppose the existence of these templates, let alone adding them to Huggle; if they are added to Huggle, I won't hesitate to disable rollback without warning for anyone misusing them. Quite aside from the fact that the potential for misuse is very high – while it's possible, Huggle is not a good tool for reviewing an account's entire contribution history and I suspect people will be way too trigger-happy with these – there's a spectacular assumption of bad faith implicit in the use of a template such as this. The reviewing admin at AIV is perfectly capable of judging whether the account is vandalism-only, and this adds no functionality whatsoever to Huggle as a tool. – iridescent 19:33, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

My opinion on this is pretty much inline with Iridescent's. Admins can determine if an account is vandalism only or not. It could be bitey to good faith newcomers if you rollback them and slap a {{uw-voa3}} on their talk page; it's also a massive assumption of bad faith on the user that's putting it in anyways. As I said, could be a little tricky to adapt. I did what I could although it's not the better solution. If you fix that, great. But may be Huggle has more urgent bugs. It seems es.wiki (like pt.wiki) don't use 'G1' style abbreviations. Fortunately their criteria are very similar to english criteria. Even if we don't understand codes like "G1" we understand speedy delete reasons. By the way, thank you very much for this fix in issue 95. That was annoying in other projects. Keyboard shortcuts in 0.8.3

In huggle 0.8.2 I have set these custom keybord shortcuts:
NumPad0 - Next change (instead of default space)
NumPad1 - Revert and warn vandalism (Instead of default Q)
NumPad2 - Revert and warn spam (Instead of default Ctrl+Shift+S)
etc.
But in 0.8.3 I think this functionality is missing. I couldn't find a way to configure it to send {{uw-spam}} notice to the user when I'm reverting linkspam. Is there a way to tweak huggle to get this function in 0.8.3? --Unpopular Opinion (talk · contribs) 10:36, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Interesting Discovery (Also applies for 8.2)

If you have a restricted account on your computer, it is impossible to log in to a new version of Huggle unless you access Huggle with an admin account. (admin on your computer, not on wiki) After the first time, you can log in to Huggle with a restricted account. Is this meant to happen? Leujohn ^(talk) 03:59, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Reverting vandalism to previous vandalism

I constantly see edits being reverted via Huggle to previous versions of vandalism. The vast majority of times it is a revision of an anonymous edit to a previous anonymous edit of a different IP. Honestly I can't think of a good way around this, but maybe other editors can think of a way to at least force Huggle users to see not only the revision that they're reverting to, but perhaps just when an edit is reverting to another anonymous edit it shows you the changes that were previously made before the anonymous edit that's being reverted to? Or maybe some type of alert that says "are you sure you want to revert to another anonymous edit?" similar to the alert when you try to revert to a previous edit of the editor that you're currently reverting? I think there's a feature on HUG (I haven't used it...if I have, I don't remember) that allows you to choose a specific revision you want to rv to. Blanking Pages

A couple times in the past few days, Huggle has been blanking the pages that I've put CSDs on. I was about to put the latest example on, then my brain kicked in and told me the page was deleted already. So I guess I can't provide examples. Freezes when I cancel an action

I'm running Huggle version 0.8.3, and whenever I try to cancel a pending action (pressing Escape or the cancel button on the top bar), Huggle freezes irrecoverably; I must use task manager to close the program and restart it to continue using. This happens every time I try to cancel an action. Not sure what is wrong, or if anyone else is having this problem.

For reference, I'm running Windows XP and, as stated above, am using version 0.8.3. Assistance or advice is much appreciated. Robert Skyhawk (Talk) 03:40, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Not blocking

Here's my problem; If I use huggle at home, and revert a level-4 warned user, it will prompt to block them. If I use my work pc, it doesn't prompt to block them at all, just adds a report to AIV. The only differences between environments is that at work I need to go through a proxy and they block IRC. At home, no proxy and I can use IRC. The Project config was changed (to allow block feature) and then reverted back. Adding the block feature restricts people to version 0.8.3; while some users prefer to use older versions of huggle due to problems with v0.8.3 (see threads above). Memory Leak?

I used reverted/warned on an edit that I should not have. I immediately click on the undo recent actions button, at which point my computer virtually froze, and had massive hard disc activity. After a short while I checked the Windows Task Manager and saw that Huggle was claiming about 280M of memory, which was rapidly rising (faster than I think it should need to). I killed huggle, and restarted it and now it is only showing 58M of memory being used. I have just tried to recreated this on the huggle sandbox but cannot. Blocking edits from certain pages from being shown

Change default browser?

You will have to make Firefox the default browser of your system. In Firefox go to Tools>Options>Advanced>General tab and click "check now" where it says always check to see if Firefox is the default browser.. -Unpopular Opinion (talk · contribs) 14:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Replying about the Sandbox

Where did keyboard shortcuts go?..

In ver. 0.8.3 many useful keyboard shortcuts just disappeared… Huggle 0.8.2 had shortcuts for many choices of revert+warnings (deleted content, factual error, edit test, …). Now I have to dig through menus, and since it's really painful on a notebook, I'm afraid Huggle is going to be simply unusable on Wibrain UMPC that I've just ordered… :-(

Removal of keyboard shortcuts

v 0.7.12 had keyboard shortcuts (along the lines of Ctrl+shift+s for spam) for revert and warn with a specific warning (spam, blanking, tests and so on.) Why has this been removced? Can we have it back? Jonathan Hall (talk) 10:09, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Admin tools

Bug

When I opened Huggle, I noticed it was unusually slow to the point wherethere were several reverts and warnings that did not execute because the "request timed out." Soon after, this bug appears: (Translation: Some of this is in chinese. The first phrase means "Call control top only possible after monitor control code constructed." The individual characters mean "at.") InvalidOperationException: 視窗控制代碼建立後才能呼叫控制項上的 Invoke 或 BeginInvoke。
