Questions

edit

I don't see a place for questions here, so I am creating this. Feel free to delete, move, etc., but please let me know on my talk page where to look for the answer.

I am curious regarding how to find previous deletion discussions. Currently I am advocating to keep an article on Abongo Obama aka Roy Obama. He may go by Malik too. Over the course of the discussion it appears he was deleted previously. I am especially interested in seeing those earlier deletion debate(s). Please advise on where and how to find that debate/discussion information. This may be very obvious, but I am not able to figure it out--yet. Thanks. How can I find a particular topic in the archived discussions: e.g. , those discussions on minor league baseball (where of course the words minor league were mentioned in the discussion) Typing Minor league in the search boxes in this page does not seem to work in any combination I've been able to figure out. This is unlike the dedicate search boxes for other archives, such as the VP. DGG (talk) 13:38, 15 May 2009 (UTC).Reply

I can confirn this. The search doesn't find anything. :( --217.238.157.233 (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I repaired it, but the search doesn't find everything. This is because not all deletion discussions are under "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/articlename", but also under "Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/articlename". The repaired search box finds only discussions from the first lemma mentioned. compare:
Search "Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/articlename" (currently used)
Search "Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/articlename"
I don't know if adding two pages to one search is somehow possible. :/ --217.238.157.233 (talk) 00:08, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I looked over the history and it seems the article was renamed, but the archive wasn't. So, I put in the correct link on top, and will fix the whole thing tomorrow. But, you will be able to see the archive by clicking on the link above until I can fix it. --stmrlbs|talk 09:19, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry Stmrlbs, there is a huge missunderstandig. We don't talk about any talk page archive! (The archive of this talk page is only about the project page, but it doesn't contain any actual deletion discussions itself) We are talking about the archives of deletion discussions which are listed on this project page (the article here to which this talk page belongs). This discussions can not be found on any talk page, but on pages like this an this (note that this are two different lemmas). The Problem is, that wie can't search with one inputbox (it is on top of this project page) for all discussions. In the posting above I included two inputboxes to show the problem. Try it out. --217.238.133.19 (talk) 15:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
ok, I will take a look. But.. there was a problem with the archive here.. so I will fix that, too while I'm here --stmrlbs|talk 17:22, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
the prefix is a "limiting" type of parameter. I don't think specifying 2 prefixes is possible in one search.. but I will keep looking. But I put in 2 searchboxes here in the meantime. Hope that helps --stmrlbs|talk 17:51, 9 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I asked about this here: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#is_there_a_way_to_search_several_sections_with_one_search.3F. It looks like someone might modify the search to be able to do this. That would be a great enhancement. Hope this guy can do it. --stmrlbs|talk 18:53, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

This would be really cool. But enhancing the search itself is only the half thing, we also need to enhance the corresponding parameter of the InputBox extension... I don't know where to feature-request a extension feature. In Bugzilla? Maybe rainman knows. --217.238.132.39 (talk) 02:02, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think we should wait to see how rainman implements this into the existing search, then figure out how to create a form that will handle it. In the meantime, just using the two search boxes above should enable people to find deletion discussion in these 2 sections. --stmrlbs|talk 02:52, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

are these all the sections to be searched?

?? --stmrlbs|talk 21:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I updated the search box at the top of this page to search these 3 sections (in my previous post). Try it and tell me what you think. I really appreciate rainman's effort in this! --stmrlbs|talk 03:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

A requested move discussion of this page (see above) did not attract much discussion. I guess this talk page is the right place on which to comment on that since that discussion is closed. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 18:24, 17 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can we create other page that's similar to that one, or nominate it for deletion, because it's not needed. (redundant to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log) Thingofme (talk) 10:11, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
