Proposals, August 2016
Moths, ad infinitum (further dividing of Category:Gelechiidae stubs sub- and sub-sub-categories)
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was create.
Gelechiidae used to be at a fearsome 5500 stubs. Since then, it's been split up nicely across several subcategories.
(See down the page at "Split of Category:Gelechiidae stubs", 2 August proposal. Thank you for doing that, by the way, Dawynn (talk · contribs) ).
Several of the new categories still are fairly large and could be split up further by using genus-level categories, for which there is precedence (among other examples, Category:Euxoa stubs, Category:Proteuxoa stubs and Category:Sympistis stubs come to mind).
As such, I propose:
Article-numbers given for existing categories do not include numbers in their already-existing subcategories. Unless otherwise stated, all articles for the proposed subcategories can be found in the category I'm proposing it as subcategory of.
For Category:Anacampsini stubs (sub-subcat of Gelechiidae stubs through Category:Anacampsinae stubs, 464 articles), the following subcategories:
- Category:Anacampsis stubs/{{Anacampsis-stub}}. 82 articles.
- Category:Compsolechia stubs/{{Compsolechia-stub}}. 112 articles.
- Category:Stomopteryx stubs/{{Stomopteryx-stub}}. 69 articles.
For Category:Chelariini stubs (sub-subcat of Gelechiidae stubs through Category:Anacampsinae stubs, 248 articles), the following subcategory:
- Category:Hypatima stubs/{{Hypatima-stub}}. 104 articles.
For Category:Anomologinae stubs (direct subcat of Gelechiidae stubs, 700+ articles), the following subcategories:
- Category:Aristotelia stubs/{{Aristotelia-stub}}. 151 articles.
- Category:Megacraspedus stubs/{{Megacraspedus-stub}}. 71 articles.
- Category:Monochroa stubs/{{Monochroa-stub}}. 64 articles.
For Category:Dichomeridinae stubs (direct subcat of Gelechiidae stubs, 178 articles), the following subcategory:
- Category:Brachmia stubs/{{Brachmia-stub}}, 72 articles.
For Category:Gelechiinae stubs (direct subcat of Gelechiidae stubs, 564 articles), the following subcategory:
- Category:Ardozyga stubs/{{Ardozyga-stub}}, 140 articles.
For Category:Gelechiini stubs (sub-subcat of Gelechiidae stubs through Gelechiinae stubs, 436 articles), the following:
- Category:Filatima stubs/{{Filatima-stub}}, 79 articles.
For Category:Gnorimoschemini stubs (sub-subcat of Gelechiidae stubs through Gelechiinae stubs, 508 articles), the following:
- Category:Caryocolum stubs/{{Caryocolum-stub}}, 81 articles.
- Category:Scrobipalpula stubs/{{Scrobipalpula-stub}}, 64 articles.

I propose creating:
- Category:Athens stubs/{{Athens-stub}} - 46 stubs would get this tag
- {{Athens-geo-stub}}(upmerged) - 37 stubs
- Category:Athens building and structure stubs/{{Athens-struct-stub}} - 88 stubs
For list, see User:Od Mishehu/Athens/list. This category will also pick up Category:2004 Summer Olympics stubs (extant category, 83 stubs). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:52, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Propose creating {{Capnodiales-stub}}/Category:Capnodiales stubs to split up Category:Dothideomycetes stubs. It would contain 254 stubs. ~ Rob13Talk 19:37, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Propose creating:
- {{Sweden-year-stub}}/Category:Sweden year stubs (135 stubs, according to AWB)
- {{Iran-year-stub}}/Category:Iran year stubs (70 stubs, according to AWB)
- {{BC-year-stub}}/Category:BC year stubs (202 stubs, according to AWB)
This will help split up a large category. ~ Rob13Talk 19:24, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hah. I was just coming here to propose similar - {{Africa-year-stub}}/Category:Africa year stubs (along with the Swedish one you've already proposed) - which would reach around 75 stubs. Grutness...wha? 10:28, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- AWB seems to be way off, BTW - I've added Sweden-year-stub to 175 stubs, and there are still 300 more in Category:Swedish history stubs to do! Grutness...wha? 11:44, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- @BU Rob13 and Grutness: Went and started sorting the remaining stubs in the above-mentioned category. (Hope you folks don't mind me butting in? ) Any other places appropriate stubs might be hidden from what you know, or should that be all of 'm? Oh, and in case needed, support for the Africa-year-stub category. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 00:53, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- Cheers :) - as far as I know unless there are any unstubbed ones which should be stubbed, the year and history categories should have all of them. Grutness...wha? 01:27, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- Ah yes, unstubbed ones are a possibility. Suppose it's easiest to first sort what's left to sort and then just check which years are missing (and thus probably un-tagged, because I think almost every Year in Sweden is a stub...) Just the bunch 1901-1999 to go now, thankfully. EDIT at ~03:27 (UTC): &done. Also caught the handful of non-tagged stubs. AddWittyNameHere (talk) 01:42, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- Personally, unless it's for a category just short of threshold, I don't often go out of my way checking for missing ones ;) Sooner or later someone is likely to tag them anyway - and just sorting what we do have is workload enough! Grutness...wha? 04:16, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Propose creating:
- {{Cossinae-stub}}/Category:Cossinae stubs (467 stubs)
- {{Metarbelinae-stub}}/Category:Metarbelinae stubs (263 stubs)
- {{Zeuzerinae-stub}}/Category:Zeuzerinae stubs (433 stubs)

- {{Crambini-stub}}/Category:Crambini stubs (712 stubs)

The result of the debate was no consensus.
There are now around 70 stubs with {{Washington-sport-bio-stub}}, but I'm of two minds about this speedy. Do we really want to create stub templates for each state? Is this a defining characteristic worth the use of a second stub template, as on Chris Magruder? The obvious answer to me is no to both, and I'd prefer to see existing transclusions of this template removed instead. Thoughts on this would be appreciated. ~ Rob13Talk 09:48, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Propose creating {{1990s-hiphop-single-stub}}/Category:1990s hip hop single stubs to help cut down Category:1990s single stubs. See the Petscan, which identified 99 possible articles. In my experience, there will be some false positives, but most will make it in to the final category. Certainly more than 60, at least. ~ Rob13Talk 08:47, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Would be helpful to reduce the size of the very large stub category Category:1990s rock album stubs. There's at least 46 stubs just among the contents of Category:Progressive rock album stubs, and I'm extremely confident that I can find 14 more among the >1,000 stubs in Category:1990s rock album stubs. For reference, Category:2000s progressive rock album stubs has over 100 stubs in it. ~ Rob13Talk 05:00, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Category:1980s country song stubs is a large stub category (>1,000 stubs), but there's no easy way to break it apart by subgenre, as "country music" doesn't have very clearly-defined subgenres. Instead, the only method of potential subcategorization would be {{1980-country-song-stub}}/Category:1980 country song stubs through {{1989-country-song-stub}}/Category:1989 country song stubs. This is unusual within this categorization scheme, but it's comparable to the "song by year" categories and it's unlikely that the large stub category issue will go away anytime soon given the lack of easily-available sources for 1980s songs. All proposed categories would be >60 articles according to Petscan. ~ Rob13Talk 00:10, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was create 1960s and 1970s + upmerged templates for other decades as necessary.
Category:1960s Italian film stubs and Category:1970s Italian film stubs are both overly large. Category:1960s Italian comedy film stubs and Category:1970s Italian comedy film stubs could immediately have 171 and 158 stubs, respectively, just by combining those with both {{1960s-Italy-film-stub}}/{{1970s-Italy-film-stub}} and {{1960s-comedy-film-stub}}/{{1970s-comedy-film-stub}}. There's certainly more out there which don't have both stub templates on them, as well. Propose {{1960s-Italy-comedy-film-stub}}/{{1970s-Italy-comedy-film-stub}} and Category:1960s Italian comedy film stubs/Category:1970s Italian comedy film stubs. ~ Rob13Talk 21:43, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Only if we create the entire Category:Italian comedy film stubs tree of stub tags. One we do that, I support any categories in that tree which have at least 60 stubs. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:05, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'd support creating additional stub templates for other decades from the 1950s forward and a broad {{Italy-comedy-film-stub}}. The 1950 cutoff is semi-arbitrary, but my point is just that we shouldn't be making a stub template for 1890s Italian comedy film stubs. ~ Rob13Talk 18:51, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

I propose creating a full set of {{transport-struct-stub}} for any region which has any of its natural subcat tags, such as {{railstation-stub}} (region may even be part of a city, e.g Brooklyn, which has {{Brooklyn-railstation-stub}}), and categories (either "transport building and structure stubs" or "transportation building and structure stubs, based on other transport(ation)-related categories for the same place, per ENGVAR) where the new tags, along with their natural children, bring the count up to 60. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:24, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

I was recently surprised to see that Category:England building and structure stubs/{{England-struct-stub}} doesn't exist, especially since the systemic bias here tends to prefer England. Looking at Category:United Kingdom building and structure stubs, In saw that we have several of the natural subcats of Category:England building and structure stubs, although not the category itself. I recommend that we fix this problem. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:53, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

- Actual;ly, you're right. I just looked st the immediate parent (United Kingdom, not British), and not at the rest of the tree. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 18:06, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Od Mishehu: What are you trying to stub-sort here? The two transclusions that I've just found (Station Theatre (Hayling Island) and The Biggin Hall) were both better stub-sorted to county level. In fact, county-level stub templates exist for most
(all?)counties, it's hard to think of a situation which would require{{England-struct-stub}}
. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:11, 10 August 2016 (UTC)- Stub sorting isn't a question of all or nothing; the fact that some one, seeing a stub about a building in England, would automatically place an {{England-struct-stub}} on it, is a reason to have that template. Same reason we have a {{NewYork-NRHP-stub}} tag - it allows for partial stub dorting by someone who knows the article is in the state of New York, without forcing them to check which county it's in. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 02:44, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
I'd definitely say yes to the category, but I'd have made it parent-only. Everything is in a county. Given that it's made though, it ill suffice for structures in counties which don't (yet) have their own templates. Grutness...wha? 07:17, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
- The counties currently lacking B&S stub cats are: Cambridgeshire; Derbyshire; East Riding of Yorkshire; East Sussex; Hertfordshire; Isle of Wight; Leicestershire; Northamptonshire; Nottinghamshire; Rutland; South Yorkshire; West Sussex; West Yorkshire; Worcestershire. For each of these, the relevant region-level cat (Category:East Midlands building and structure stubs; Category:East of England building and structure stubs; Category:South East England building and structure stubs; Category:West Midlands (region) building and structure stubs; Category:Yorkshire building and structure stubs) exists, and if there are sufficient, we might split them out to county cats. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:09, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

A Petscan indicates that exactly 60 stubs within Category:2000s electronic album stubs (a very large category in need of diffusion) could likely be sorted into a trip hop-specific category. Given that this is right on the edge, it's possible there won't be enough to justify the category immediately, but it's worth the template. ~ Rob13Talk 03:54, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

I propose creating Category:London sport stubs/{{London-sport-stub}} as the intersection of Category:English sport stubs and Category:London stubs - even without the Olympics stub tag I've upmerged there, we have 65 stubs for this category. Working through the above category (many of the stubs depressingly don't say where the formations are - they could be anywhere from Zambia to Fiji - slowly trying to find out where they are).
- There are now enough articles (69) marked with {{China-geologic-formation-stub}} for a speediable Category:Chinese geologic formation stubs
- I'd say that there are several more templates which could be useful:
Each of these would have at least 30-40 stubs, and the Africa one will probably get very close to threshold. The three national-level templates should be speediable, given precedent. Grutness...wha? 08:18, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed creation of the stub template and/or category above. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the template's or category's talk page (if any). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was create.
We already have a full category for Category:South African dam stubs and {{Africa-dam-stub}}. Speedy request to build the continent category as a proper hierarchical structure.

- It'd be a little light at 34 stubs, even with the subcat, but there may be some more kicking around unmarked... Grutness...wha? 08:21, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- There was a LOT of understubbing and generic "struct" stubbing. Should be speediable now with about 70 stubs. Grutness...wha? 08:43, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
