James A. Doonan (November 8, 1841 – April 12, 1911) was an American Catholic priest and Jesuit who was the president of Georgetown University from 1882 to 1888. Born in Georgia, he studied at Georgetown before entering the Society of Jesus in 1857. During his formation, he taught at Loyola College in Maryland and Boston College. He also studied at Woodstock College and was ordained a priest in 1874. Doonan became a professor at Georgetown before being named president in 1882. He worked to offset the debt accrued during the construction of Healy Hall, and installed in front of the building two historical cannons that had been carried aboard Lord Baltimore's 1634 expeditionary voyage to Maryland. He also oversaw construction of a new building for the School of Medicine. After his presidency, Doonan continued teaching and engaging in pastoral work throughout the Northeastern United States. He died at Georgetown in 1911. (Full article...)

  • Comment: This looks like a very well-written article, as with all of Ergo Sum's work, but the last TFA on a Georgetown president was literally only a week ago. I think we're rapidly approaching (if not already well past) the point where readers are going to notice all the repetition and question why the TFAs are not more diverse. I'm not going to oppose as I know writing FAs is hard and TFA is an expected reward, but if we were considering only reader interests, I'd think we'd want to spread these out; barring something unexpected, it will still be an FA on his 185th birthday. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 02:38, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I share Sdkb's opinion—noticed many weeks ago that Georgetown presidents are appearing on the main page very frequently. Thrakkx (talk) 23:34, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm quite attentive to too much repetition of similar articles at TFA, so if the consensus is that there have been too many Georgetown articles, I'll space out my nominations accordingly. My rule of thumb has been that I time it so that no nom would appear less than 1.5 months apart. Typically, though, they're about 3 months apart. After all, it's the main page appearances that matter, not nominations. For instance, by the time this one would appear at TFA, it would be 2 months since the last one (Grassi) appeared. tend to think 2 months is a long enough gap, but I'm open to others' input.
