Template:Charlie Chaplin edit

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more templates or modules. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was merge to Template:Charlie Chaplin. Izno (talk) 18:25, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging Template:Charlie Chaplin with Template:Charlie Chaplin filmography.
There shouldn't two navboxes for one subject. All the filmography navbox entries can easily be added to the Chaplin navbox with a section for films directed by Chaplin. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 18:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Note that any film listed in those templates that is for an acting role should be removed per WP:FILMNAV. Gonnym (talk) 11:01, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Violates MOS:FILMNFI. These two navboxes entire listing is found on articles for both actors' filmography pages. We don't need navboxes for the entire filmography. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 18:23, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question: Violates MOS:FILMNFI, how? Keep: I understand that your concern is redundancy but, depending on the reader's habits, I would tend to think that bottom page navboxes can be useful even if they duplicate lists of films. I'd rather improve/expand/shorten this kind of templates. Also the filmographies and articles display the titles differently and navigation is also about layout, in my opinion. -My, oh my! Violates MOS:FILMNFI. This is just a list of the actor's filmography which is available on the actor's article. Not a good use of a navbox. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 18:19, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question: Violates MOS:FILMNFI, how? Keep: very standard Navbox. Question 2 Are you planning on discussing deletion of all navboxes for actors? If so please kindly inform the Film project of your plan.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 10:16, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

All links are able to be found on the main article. The navbox outside the title page has four links which isn't enough to navigate with. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 18:14, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Violates MOS:FILMNFI. This is just a list of the actor's filmography based on starring and non-starring roles. This does not serve a navigational purpose as the films Lewis has been in can be found linked on his filmography article and his main article. Navboxes are not supposed to duplicate a list that can and does serve a better purpose on article space. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:55, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question: Violates MOS:FILMNFI, how? Keep: I understand that your concern is partial redundancy but, depending on the reader's habits, I would tend to think that bottom page navboxes can be useful even if they partially duplicate lists of films. I'd rather improve/expand/shorten this kind of templates.-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 10:16, 10 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary and obnoxious. Zinnober9 (talk) 15:57, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep — Okay, I tagged my other one for speedy deletion because you were absolutely correct, but I actually love this one. Just because the template has dimension and a graphic doesn’t make it obnoxious. The graphic is related to the purpose of template (made it myself - please hold your applause, Jonesey95. This doesn’t need to be nominated. Where does it say that a template cannot be more dynamic rather than just flat and boring? Absolutely disagree with this one. I will be casting a vote to keep and hope that others see my point.

Carry on with the discussion if you must. I this this one looks great.

Oops you’re not Jonesey95… well it looks like I got the whole template community out for blood. I won’t lie, I am a bit scared… do your worst. *shakes fist* 4theloveofallthings (talk) 16:14, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Don’t worry I know it’s not. I’m not actually upset. Lol. Thanks for linking info, I will absolutely give it a read. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 16:18, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am tagging Template:Case-sensitive with {{db-author}}. Believe it or not, I actually learned a lot about making templates during the process of making these monstrosities. I will take that and keep it, and you can send these templates to template hell where they probably belong. Although, I still think the case-sensitive one looks very nice… but that’s just me! 4theloveofallthings (talk) 16:24, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not needed. Much too obnoxious. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:44, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

{{db-author}} added to the template. Now will someone at least fix Template:Substituted as it is not obnoxious enough for a notice regarding the functionality of a template. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 15:52, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
