Template:WikiProject Serial Killer task force edit

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more templates or modules. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was merge to Template:WikiProject Crime. Izno (talk) 03:27, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Propose merging Template:WikiProject Serial Killer task force with Template:WikiProject Crime.
Wikipedia:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography/Serial Killer task force is a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography so it should be added to Template:WikiProject Crime and usages replaced with it and the new task force parameter. Gonnym (talk) 19:23, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with proposed merge. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:21, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agree in principle - However, I think the template needs to distinguish the Crimes articles from Criminal Biographies, perhaps through the use of attributes, as happens for the Death WikiProject and Suicide. At present the Crime template has a B-class checklist, which I find useful, while the Criminal Biography template does not, which might be an issue. Also, the two templates display different icons which is helpful when identifying if the article is about a crime (an event) or a criminal (a biography). Also, while we are at it, perhaps the apparently defunct Template:WikiProject British crime can be merged in as well, as there are a couple of thousand articles with this defunct banner arising from a merger proposal a year ago that was not fully executed. Additionally, consider merging in Template:WikiProject Organized crime, too, as another taskforce of Template:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography, because it is really a subset of crime and criminal biography articles with an almost total overlap in articles and scope. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 12:12, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Template:WikiProject British crime and Wikipedia:WikiProject Organized crime, those can't be merged here (at the moment) as their WikiProject are separate projects. A discussion should be made first to convert those into task forces and then the templates can be merged. Gonnym (talk) 18:57, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, so I will hold those thought additional thoughts until we deal with this one. The "Serial Killer" task force is somewhat of a misleading name, as it deals with mass murders, serial murders and murder sprees as events, in addition to the biographies of serial killers, and other multi-murderers. This is a sort of a multi-pronged fork of a task force whose scope is not fully reflected in its name. I wonder if we should take the opportunity to call it "Mass Murder" and create subsets for biographies, for mass murderers i.e Serial Killers and similar people as well as a subset for mass murder events and serial killings, where the article is about the event and not the perpetrator. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:06, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mass murder and serial murder (and spree murder) are all different things that the task force covers, I agree the current title is confusing. Maybe "multiple murder" task force? Mass is a better title than serial at least. I think multiple murder task force would be least confusing. PARAKANYAA (talk) 00:02, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this sentiment. I find it helpful that Criminal Biographies and Crime have separate icons. They should be merged but perhaps have separate icons (so, something like the current WikiProject Criminal Biography template merging as {{WikiProject Crime|crimebio=yes}} or something, sort of like how all the micronation wikiprojects work)
I also agree with your assessment regarding the other two WikiProjects but as Gonnym said I think those need to be converted into task forces first. British Crime is a defunct project so that shouldn't be a controversial issue at all, but I wonder if the people at Organized crime would want to do that or not? Not sure how active that project is. But yeah, very similar project overlap. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:59, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The templates say that the draft will be revisited at the end of the campaign. At that point there is no reason to keep this template. If the draft became an article, it should use Template:ArtAndFeminism article, if it ended up in the graveyard, then there is no reason to it as a record. There are only two articles about the band's works. The other two articles are other artists' songs that mention the band sampling the song in WP:IPC sections. This act doesn't need a template yet, so it should be deleted. Ss112 01:24, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
